North West Slopes
The North West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia, refers generally to the area west of the Northern Tablelands, to the north of the Central West region and to the east of the Far West region. Despite its name, the region is in north-central New South Wales, corresponding generally to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's forecast area of ''North West Slopes and Plains''. The administrative areas of the region include the city of Tamworth, Gunnedah, Moree, Narrabri and Inverell. The region is higher, hillier and wetter on its eastern edge than on its western edge. The North West Slopes are situated on various tributaries to the Darling River, such as the Barwon, Gwydir, and Namoi Rivers, which rise in the Great Dividing Range country to its east. Moree, New South Wales
Moree is a town in Moree Plains Shire in northern New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the banks of the Mehi River, in the centre of the rich black-soil plains. The town is located at the junction of the Newell Highway and Gwydir Highway and can be reached by daily train and air services from Sydney. The Weraerai and Kamilaroi peoples are the earliest known inhabitants of the area, and the town's name is said to come from an Aboriginal word for "rising sun," "long spring," or "water hole". The town was settled by Europeans in the 1850s, and local Aboriginal residents were placed in missions, later Aboriginal reserves. Local Government (Shires) Act 1905 was a landmark New South Wales statute notable for the compulsory incorporation of local government areas for around 40% of the area of New South Wales. The Act created 134 rural shires, many surrounding a small urban area separately and voluntarily incorporated under the '' Municipalities Act 1858'' and the following ''Municipalities Act 1867'' and '' Municipalities Act 1897'' As well as the compulsory incorporation of rural areas, the ''Local Government (Shires) Act'' repealed the ''Municipalities Act'' - bringing local government under one legislative framework. Biniguy, New South Wales
Biniguy is a village in Moree Plains Shire of New South Wales in Australia. At the , the village and surrounding area had a population of 147. The village is located on the Gwydir Highway approximately from Moree, the main service centre for the region and by road from the state capital Sydney. The village is prone to seasonal flooding; in February 2012 the entire village was evacuated by helicopter to Moree A railway station was opened on 1 February 1900 with the first section of the Inverell branch, and operated until 3 December 1985, following the withdrawal of passenger trains on the line. The railway line was progressively closed, with the last section between Moree and Biniguy being listed as out of use in 1994. Pallamallawa or "Pally" is a small rural village approximately 30 kilometres east of Moree, in north-western New South Wales, Australia. It is on the banks of the Gwydir River, two kilometres north of the Gwydir Highway between Inverell and Moree. At the , Pallamallawa had a population of 253 people. The village is a service centre for surrounding agricultural production. The majority of the population was Christian, with Anglicans accounting for nearly half of the population, followed by Catholics and Presbyterians. Local Government Areas Amalgamation Act 1980
The Local Government Areas Amalgamation Act 1980 (NSW) was an Act of the Parliament of New South Wales, which amended the ''Local Government Act 1919'', with the purpose of amalgamating a series of local government areas in New South Wales. The amalgamations took effect from 1 January 1981. The Act Schedule 1 of the Act lists the areas to be amalgamated and the status of the new area (i.e. Shire or Municipality). The only area to be split by the Act was the Manning Shire, divided between the Shire of Great Lakes and the newly created Municipality of Greater Taree.
