Bonin
The Bonin Islands, also known as the , is a Japanese archipelago of over 30 subtropical and tropical islands located around SSE of Tokyo and northwest of Guam. The group as a whole has a total area of but only two of the islands are permanently inhabited, Chichijima and Hahajima. Together, their population was 2,560 as of 2021. Administratively, Tokyo's Ogasawara Subprefecture also includes the settlements on the Volcano Islands and the Self-Defense Force post on Iwo Jima. The seat of government is Chichijima. Because of the Bonins' isolation, many of their animals and plants have undergone unique evolutionary processes. Chichijima
is the largest and most populous islands of Japan, island in the Japanese archipelago of Bonin Islands, Bonin or Ogasawara Islands. Chichijima is about north of Iwo Jima. in size, the island is home to about 2,120 people (2021). Ogasawara Subprefecture
is a subprefecture of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in Japan. The Bonin Islanders, also known as the Ogasawara Islanders or in Japanese, are a Euronesian ethnic group native to the Bonin Islands (or Ogasawara Islands). Hahajima
Hahajima, Haha Jima, or is the second-largest island within the Bonin or Ogasawara Islands SSE of the Japanese Home Islands. The steeply-sloped island, which is about in area, has a population of 440. It is part of Ogasawara Village in Ogasawara Subprefecture, which is approximately south of Tokyo, Japan. The highest peaks Hahajima are ''Chibusayama'' (lit. ''Breast Mountain''), approximately , and Sakaigatake, . Iwo Jima
is one of the Japanese Volcano Islands, which lie south of the Bonin Islands and together with them make up the Ogasawara Subprefecture, Ogasawara Archipelago. Together with the Izu Islands, they make up Japan's Nanpō Islands. Mukojima Islands
The Mukojima Islands ( ) – formerly known as the Parry Group – are a group of uninhabited small islands with a collective land area of 586 ha. They lie some 900–1,100 km south of Tokyo in the Bonin Islands group of the Nanpō Archipelago of Japan. Islands in the group include Kitanojima, Mukojima, Nakōdo-jima, Yomejima, Maejima, with some other smaller islets.
