Bonhill F.C.
Bonhill Football Club was an association football club based in the town of Bonhill, in Dunbartonshire. History The club was founded in 1885, and, having quickly leased a ground, entered the Scottish Cup. The club's first match in the competition was a 1–1 draw at Lenzie in the September 1885, but winning 6–0 in the replay. In the second round the club lost 10–0 at Vale of Leven. The national cup being drawn on a regional basis in the early rounds meant that the club only ever faced local sides; with the county being the strongest for football, that doomed the club to early exits in its remaining entries. In the 1886–87 Scottish Cup the club beat Kirkintilloch Central 8–1 away in the first round, but lost at home to Jamestown in the second, somewhat against expectations, as Bonhill had won 5 out of 6 games thus far in the season, but the club could not turn around a 2–0 half-time deficit. Dumbartonshire Cup
The Dumbartonshire Cup was the championship trophy of the Dumbartonshire FA from its inception in 1884 until the organization disbanded in 1938. There was however an 'extra' playing of the competition in 1939, immediately after the outbreak of the Second World War, prior to the 'emergency' football leagues commencing. At its height in the 1880s, the competition was only second in importance to the Scottish Cup because three of the top teams of the time - Dumbarton, Renton and Vale of Leven - took part. Dumbarton (; also sco, Dumbairton; ) is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, on the north bank of the River Clyde where the River Leven flows into the Clyde estuary. In 2006, it had an estimated population of 19,990. Dumbarton was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Strathclyde, and later the county town of Dunbartonshire. Dumbarton Castle, on top of Dumbarton Rock, dominates the area. Dumbarton was a Royal burgh between 1222 and 1975. Kirkintilloch (; sco, Kirkintulloch; gd, Cair Cheann Tulaich) is a town and former barony burgh in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It lies on the Forth and Clyde Canal and on the south side of Strathkelvin, about northeast of central Glasgow. Historically part of Dunbartonshire, the town is the administrative home of East Dunbartonshire council area, its population in 2009 was estimated at 19,700 and its population in 2011 was 19,689. Toponymy "Kirkintilloch" comes from the Gaelic ''Cair Cheann Tulaich'' or ''Cathair Cheann Tulaich'', meaning "fort at the end of the hill". Bonhill
Bonhill ( sco, B'nill; gd, Both an Uillt) is a town in the Vale of Leven area of West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It is sited on the Eastern bank of the River Leven, on the opposite bank from the larger town of Alexandria. History The area is mentioned in a charter of 1225 giving the monks from Paisley Abbey fishing rights on the east bank of the River Leven at the Linbrane pool. Bonhill Parish was noted in a charter of 1270 as "the parish of Buthehille", and the name became Bonyle about 1550, with the variants Binnuill, Bonuil and Bonill appearing before Bonhill was adopted by 1700. In 1650 this small poor parish was enlarged, and since then the Parish has included most of the towns and villages in the Vale of Leven. The village of Bonhill itself featured an early church, and a ford across the River Leven on the drovers' road to Glasgow.
