Newgulf, Texas
Newgulf (or New Gulf) is an unincorporated community in Wharton County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of ten in 2009. It is located within the Greater Houston metropolitan area. History Newgulf was founded as a company town for the Texas Gulf Sulfur Company in 1928 and is reportedly the largest sulfur deposit in the world. Seth Ingram developed a land grant for the community. While it was being built, employees of the sulfur company held a contest to name the community, with Marie Ertz, who worked at the Houston office, as the winner. There were 400 dwellings, with an average of three bedrooms, built in the community as homes for the employees and their families. In order to serve the numerous individual school districts and charter schools in Texas, Texas Education Agency (TEA) is divided into 20 regions, each containing an Educational Service Center, or ESC. These are also sometimes called Regional Service Centers, or RSC. Boling-Iago ( ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Wharton County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,271 as of the 2000 United States Census. Boling-Iago is located along Farm to Market Road 1301 about southeast of Wharton, the county seat. Boling is located at the intersection of FM 1301 and Farm to Market Road 442, while the community of Iago is to the northeast at the intersection of FM 1301 and Farm to Market Road 1096. The Boling Independent School District received a Recognized ranking in 2010. The numerous pump jacks and oil tanks in the vicinity indicate that Boling and Iago lie atop oil-bearing rock formations.
