Thomas Boles (born 1944 in Lennoxtown in Scotland) is a Scottish amateur astronomer, discoverer of astronomical objects, author, broadcaster and former communications and computer engineer, who observes from his private "Coddenham Observatory" () in Coddenham, Suffolk, United Kingdom. He is known for having discovered a record number of supernovae. The main-belt asteroid 7648 Tomboles is named in his honor. He was President of the British Astronomical Association from 2003 to 2005 and Vice President from 2005 to 2007. He is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and an Examinations Moderator in astronomy with the International Baccalaureate. Thomas Boles (July 16, 1837 – March 13, 1905) was an American politician, a judge, and a U.S. Representative from Arkansas. Biography Born near Clarksville, Arkansas, Boles attended the common schools and taught school for several years. Career Boles was a deputy sheriff in Yell County, Arkansas in 1858 and deputy clerk of the circuit court of Yell County in 1859 and 1860. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1860 whereupon he commenced practice in Danville, Arkansas. During the American Civil War, Boles served on the Union side as captain of Company E, Third Regiment, Arkansas Volunteer Cavalry from 1863 until 1864. After the war he served as judge of the fourth judicial circuit from 1865 until April 20, 1868, when he resigned. Upon the readmission of Arkansas to representation Boles was elected as a Republican to the Fortieth Congress and was reelected to the Forty-first Congress, serving from June 22, 1868 until March 3, 1871. Nick Boles
Nicholas Edward Coleridge Boles (born 2 November 1965) is a British politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Grantham and Stamford from 2010 to 2019. He was a member of the Conservative Party until 2019. Before entering Parliament, Boles was a Westminster City councillor and the director of Policy Exchange, a think tank based in Westminster. He was elected to the Grantham and Stamford constituency in Lincolnshire at the 2010 general election. He served as Minister of State for Skills from 2014 to 2016. Boles resigned from his local Conservative Association on 16 March 2019 citing differences with his local party. On 1 April 2019, he resigned the party whip, accusing the party of failing to compromise on Brexit. He then sat as an Independent Progressive Conservative until the dissolution of parliament on 5 November.
