Bodil Niska
Bodil Aileen Niska (born 21 August 1954 in Vadsø, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist known for her recordings of jazz standards. Career Raised in Hammerfest ,she was taught music by her father, the accordion player Aksel Niska, and studied under the guidance of Kjell Bartholdsen, and ran the jazz club "Montenegro" (1979–89). After moving southward in Norway in 1990, Niska collaborated within the trio "Girl Talk" from 1992, the other members being Tine Asmundsen (double bass) and Elizabeth Walker. They recorded the album ''Talkin' Jazz'' (1996). She formed the Bodil Niska Quartet, including Per Husby (piano), Stig Hvalryg (bass) and Roger Johansen (drums), at the Oslo Jazz Festival in 2005. She is also known for her collaboration with Pete Brown Trio, including Scott Hamilton and Harry Allen. Niska has established the "Bare Jazz" store in Oslo, and a record label by the same name. Vadsø (; sme, Čáhcesuolu; fkv, Vesisaari) is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark County, Norway. Sildajazz
Sildajazz is a jazz festival, which is held annually on the second weekend of August, in Haugesund, Norway. The inaugural festival was in 1987. Both domestic and international artists participate at the festival and each year an award Sildjazzprisen is given to a Norwegian jazz musician or band. The festival is named after the Norwegian word for herring Herring are forage fish, mostly belonging to the family of Clupeidae. Herring often move in large schools around fishing banks and near the coast, found particularly in shallow, temperate waters of the North Pacific and North Atlantic Ocea ... (sild). Alf Wilhelm Lundberg
Alf Wilhelm Lundberg (born 8 May 1979 in Haugesund, Norway) is a Norwegian Jazz musician (guitar and piano) and composer. Career Lundberg studied music on the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonsevatorium, where he earned specialization in arranging and composition. In 2003 Lundberg was awarded the first prize at the "Umbria Jazz Clinics" in Italia as guitarist in a strong competition. He has subsequently also studied guitar under the guidance of Adam Rogers in New York and Nelson Veras in Paris. Lundberg has toured England, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Italy and France with bands "All Strings Trio", "Faces" and "Kofi/Makowski Quartet", and played on some of the biggest jazz festivals in Europe, like Kongsberg Jazzfestival, London Jazz Festival and Umbria Jazz. Staffan William-Olsson
Staffan William-Olsson (born 13 December 1959) is a Swedish jazz guitarist in the band The Real Thing who has worked with Bob Berg, Lee Konitz, and Palle Mikkelborg. Career He played piano, guitar and drums already at the age of 7, and studied classical piano with a jazz-oriented teacher. Eventually he was oriented towards the guitar, with the blues and rock music as main sources of influence ( Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin as main models). When he discovered jazz-rock, Weather Report, John McLaughlin and Allan Holdsworth among others became the new sources of inspiration. Paul Wagnberg
Paul (Palle) Wagnberg (born 25 April 1961 in Norrköping, Sweden) is a Swedish–Norwegian jazz musician, mostly known for his jazz-organ playing. He also sings and plays the piano in addition to composing. Career Wagnberg was born in Norrköping, Sweden. Since 1985 he has been playing professionally with his Hammond B3 organ. He is in particular known for his footwork on the bass pedals. He is known for his collaborations within the Swedish-Norwegian jazz quartet The Real Thing, comprising Wagnberg (Hammond B3 organ), Staffan William-Olsson (guitar), Børre Dalhaug (drums) and the late Sigurd Køhn (saxophone). The Real Thing is currently put on hold after Køhn died in 2004 in Thailand by the tsunami catastrophe. He is one of the grand masters among European bassplayers and has been leading an international career in jazz since the late 1960s.
