Bob Welborn
Robert "Bob" Joe Welborn (May 5, 1928 – August 10, 1997) of Denton, North Carolina, Denton was a NASCAR Grand National Series driver. He was named to NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers list in 1998. He won the final three NASCAR Convertible Division championships in 1956, 1957, and 1958. NASCAR career Welborn drove in 11 Grand National events in 1953 for Julian Petty and J.O. Goode’s. Charlotte Speedway
Charlotte Speedway was the site of NASCAR's first Strictly Stock Series (now NASCAR Cup Series) race on June 19, 1949. The Daytona Beach Road Course held the first race sanctioned by NASCAR in 1948. The track was a few miles west of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, on Little Rock Road. It was owned by Carl C. Allison Sr. and his wife, Catherine Montgomery Allison. The company currently operates out of Charlotte, North Carolina, but is no longer a race team. Pole Position
In a motorsports race, the pole position is usually the best and "statistically the most advantageous" starting position on the track. The pole position is usually earned by the driver with the best qualifying times in the trials before the race, although penalties may award it to the second fastest driver, as the pole position is statistically awarded to the driver starting in first position. The number-one qualifying driver is also referred to as the pole-sitter. The pole position starts the race "at the front of the starting grid. Petty Enterprises
Petty Enterprises (formerly Lee Petty Engineering) was a NASCAR racing team based in Level Cross, Randolph County, North Carolina, Level Cross, North Carolina, United States, USA. It was founded by Lee Petty with his two sons Richard Petty and Maurice Petty. The team was later owned by Richard Petty, his son Kyle Petty and Boston Ventures. Bob Griffin (NASCAR)
Bob Griffin (February 10, 1895August 2, 1979) was a NASCAR team owner from 1950 to 1962. As owner of Griffin Motors Racing, along with his sons Tommy and Bobby, he fielded cars in the NASCAR Grand National Series. Drivers such as Buck Baker, Fireball Roberts, Lee Petty, and Fonty Flock at one point raced for Griffin Motors Racing. Additionally, he was the owner of Griffin Motors Oldsmobile in Florence, South Carolina. The racing team, also based out of Florence, ran Oldsmobile sedans in the newly formed NASCAR series.
