Bob Spargo Sr.
Robert Henry Spargo (7 July 1913 – 14 May 1994) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Luke Spargo (1878-1944), and Rena Ann Spargo (1891-1980), née McHenry, Robert Henry Spargo was born at South Dudley, Victoria on 7 July 1913. He married Dorothy Annie "Dot" White (1913–2016) in 1938. Spargo's two sons Bob Jr and Ricky also both played for Footscray Football Club. His grandson Paul played for North Melbourne and the Brisbane Bears and great-grandson Charlie plays for Melbourne Football Club. Football As a schoolboy, he played for the Wonthaggi Technical School team, alongside Fred Backway and Bernie Guthrie. Parkside Football Club (WRFL)
The Parkside Football Club is an Australian rules football club which compete in the Western Region Football League since 1931. They are based in the Melbourne suburb of Footscray. History "Parkside Football Club" was officially formed in 1897 but prior to that operated under the name “Oblinagil” which was aboriginal for ‘near the park’ or ‘beside the park’. Dr. Anderson was the first President who lived in a residence named “Parkside” in Moore Street, Footscray which was how the club's name originated. The club's first home ground was a paddock adjacent to Footscray Park in Ballarat Road called “Newell's Paddock”. In 1921, following a very successful era, the greatest representative of the club became involved with Herb Pascarl running the boundary. Stawell Gift
The Stawell Gift is Australia's oldest and richest short-distance running race. It is the main event in an annual carnival held on Easter weekend by the Stawell Athletic Club, with the main race finals on the holiday Monday, at Central Park, Stawell, Victoria, Stawell in the Grampian Mountains (Australia), Grampian Mountains district of western Victoria. the carnival encompasses events for both men and women of all ages and abilities, across distances from 70 to 3,200 metres. The final of the iconic main race is run on grass over 120 metres up a slight gradient. Competitors are Handicapping, handicapped according to their form, with each competitor "marked" by between 0 and 10 metres or more to theoretically reach the finish line at the same time.
