Bob Save Super Bowl
The Nedbank Cup is the current name of South Africa's premier club soccer knockout tournament. While many formats have been used over the years, the tournament has always been based on the idea of giving lower league and amateur teams a chance to compete with clubs from the top league for the cup. The tournament is based on the English FA Cup, which has become known for "giant killings" (lower league clubs defeating a top-flight club). History The tournament was started in 1971 as the Life Challenge Cup, this name stayed in place until 1975. In 1976 and 1977, the tournament was known as the Benson and Hedges Trophy. From 1978 until 1987 the tournament was known as the Mainstay Cup. In 1988 the sponsorship was taken over by First National Bank, and was renamed the Bob Save Super Bowl. 2024–25 Nedbank Cup
The 2024–25 Nedbank Cup is the 2024–25 edition of South Africa's premier knockout club football (soccer) competition, the Nedbank Cup. It is the 53rd season of the competition, and 18th under its current sponsor. Defending champions Orlando Pirates F.C., Orlando Pirates were looking to repeat their achievement of 1973 to 1975 by winning the competition for three years in a row. Highlands Park FC
Highlands Park Football Club are a South African professional soccer club who played in Modderfontein, Johannesburg. They were founded in 2003 as a phoenix club to the earlier Highlands Park F.C. (1959) and Highlands Park F.C. (1990) The club started out in the fourth tier of the South African Football league, known as SAFA Regional League, and got promoted in 2007 to compete in the third tier, known as Vodacom League. Walter Cesar Nogueira da Silva (12 January 1942 – 21 May 2009) was a Brazilian professional footballer who played as a striker. Ted Dumitru
Theodore "Ted" Dumitru (born Dumitru Teodorescu; 2 September 1939 – 26 May 2016) was a Romanian football manager who is best known for his time in South Africa. Dumitru was one of few coaches who have led South Africa's 'big three' clubs Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Dumitru was brought to South Africa by the owner of Kaizer Chiefs, Kaizer Motaung, in 1985, Dumitru went on to become the most successful coach in South African professional football. Stanley "Screamer" Tshabalala (15 March 1949 – 11 July 2024), also known as Mr. Shoe, Shine and Piano, was a South African soccer player, coach, and administrator. Tshabalala was the first coach of South Africa national team after readmission to FIFA. Playing career Tshabalala began his playing career as a 19-year-old at Orlando Preston Brothers before moving to Kaizer XI in 1969 after the return of Kaizer Motaung. Tshabalala was a founding member of Kaizer Chiefs in 1970. Jomo Cosmos is a South African soccer club based in Johannesburg that plays in the ABC Motsepe League. The club is owned and coached by South African football legend Jomo Sono. At the end of the 2021–22 National First Division season, the club was relegated to the third tier of football in South Africa for the first time. Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club (simply known as Sundowns) is a South African professional football club based in Mamelodi, Pretoria in the Gauteng province that plays in the Premiership, the first tier of South African football league system. Bloemfontein Celtic Football Club (simply known as Celtic) is a South African soccer club based in Bloemfontein. Joe Frickleton
Joe Frickleton (c. 1935 – 14 December 2020) was a Scottish professional football player and manager, active primarily in South Africa Playing career Frickleton, who played as a wing half, played youth with Clydebank Juniors, before turning professional with East Stirlingshire, where he made 107 appearances in the Scottish Football League between 1959 and 1964. He then moved to South Africa to play with Highlands Park, where he won three national championships. Coaching career After his playing days were over, Frickleton remained in South Africa, and trained as a football manager. His first job was at former club Highlands Park in 1974. Mpumalanga Black Aces
Black Aces was a South African football club that played in the Premier Soccer League. Aces usually played their home games in the Mpumalanga province but were based and trained in Johannesburg. History The original club was founded in 1937 by dairy workers. The club folded after finishing 14th in the National First Division inland stream in 2002. The club had also been known as the Ukhumba Black Aces, Witbank Black Aces and Super Kurl Aces during its existence.
