Bob Lally
Robert Michael Lally (born February 12, 1952) is a former American football linebacker who played in the National Football League (NFL) and the World Football League (WFL). Lally played collegiate ball for Cornell University and served as team captain. He was a First-team Selection to the Silver Anniversary All-Ivy Football Team (1971), a Cornell Hall of Fame Inductee (1982) and was selected to the Cornell All-Time Football Team (1887–2003). At Cornell, Lally was also President of the Red Key Society and was a member of the Quill and Dagger Society. He played prep football for Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame (1991). Lally was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 1974 NFL draft and the Memphis Southmen of the WFL. Linebacker
Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and typically line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and so back up the defensive linemen. They play closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary). As such, linebackers play a hybrid role and are often the most versatile players on the defensive side of the ball; they can be asked to play roles similar to either a defensive lineman (such as stopping the runner on a running play) or a defensive back (such as dropping back into pass coverage). The World Football League (WFL) was an American football league that played one full season in 1974 in sports, 1974 and most of its second in 1975 in sports, 1975. Although the league's proclaimed ambition was to bring American football onto a worldwide stage, only one team – the Hawaiians (WFL), the Hawaiians in Honolulu, Hawaii – was headquartered outside of continental North America. The 1974 NFL draft took place at the Americana Hotel in New York City, New York, on January 29–30, 1974. Each of the 26 NFL teams were granted 17 selections for a total of 442 picks. Many experts consider the Pittsburgh Steelers to have had the best draft class in NFL history as they selected four players later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame (Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, John Stallworth, and Mike Webster).
