Allan Boardman
Allan Dawson Boardman (1937 – 24 November 2018) was a British physicist, known for his work on Surface plasmon resonance, surface plasmons and guided wave optics, especially nonlinear waves, solitons, Magneto-optic effect, magneto-optics and negative refracting metamaterials. He was a theorist and numerical analyst in these areas, especially magneto-optics and metamaterials. In 2006 he was made a fellow of the Optical Society of America for his contributions in these fields and for "exemplary leadership and service to the optics community". Boardman made substantial contributions to his university, leading the School of Sciences. Latterly, he was a Professorial Research Fellow at the University of Salford. Humphrey Colman Boardman (26 July 1904 – 15 June 1998) was an English rower who competed for Great Britain at the 1928 Summer Olympics at Amsterdam. He was born in Norwich. He was the younger brother of Christopher Boardman who won gold in the Sailing at the 1936 Summer Olympics. Their father, Edward Thomas Boardman, was a Norwich architect, as was, their grandfather Edward Boardman. Their mother, Florence, was the daughter of Jeremiah Colman (MP) owner of Colman's Mustard. John Michael Boardman (13 February 193818 March 2021) was a mathematician whose speciality was algebraic and differential topology. He was affiliated with the University of Cambridge, England and the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Boardman was most widely known for his construction of the first rigorously correct model of the homotopy category of spectra. He received his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1964. His thesis advisor was C. T. C. Wall. Mabel Thorp Boardman
Mabel Thorp Boardman (October 12, 1860 – March 17, 1946) was an American philanthropist involved with the American Red Cross. She led the Red Cross in the United States following its receiving congressional charter in 1905 until World War I; however, she did not take up the post of chairman since she believed the organisation would lose credibility with the public. She was the only woman to ever serve on the District of Columbia Board of Commissioners, which was the equivalent of both the Mayor and City Council before home rule. Another woman wouldn't serve in a similar role until Polly Shackleton and Margaret A. Haywood were appointed to the new 9-member council in 1967. Leslie Boardman
Leslie Boardman (2 August 1889 – 23 November 1975) was an Australian freestyle swimmer of the 1910s. As a member of the Australasia combined team of Australia and New Zealand athletes, Boardman won a gold medal in the 4×200-metre freestyle relay at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden. Although little is known about Boardman, he never won any Australian championships and was not among the original selections for the Stockholm Olympics. E.G. Findlay was originally named in the team, but presumably due to lack of financing, Boardman later assumed his position in the team. According to records, he did not place at the 1912 Australian Championships and came fourth in the 220-yard freestyle at the New South Wales Championships. Career Boardman was born in Mortimer Common, Berkshire and joined Crystal Palace as a trainee in June 1999, turning professional on 7 July 2000. John Joseph Boardman (1893 - 1978) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who served as Auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn, New York, and Titular Bishop of Gunela. Biography Boardman was born on November 7, 1893, in Brooklyn and ordained a parish priest on May 21, 1921, aged 27. The Principal Consecrator was Archbishop Thomas Molloy. On March 28, 1952, aged 58, he was appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn and Titular Bishop of Gunela. He received his episcopal consecration on June 11, 1952. In 1959, Bishop Boardman was sent from Holy Name Parish where he was pastor, and appointed as pastor of Our Lady of Angels in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
