Bnei Sakhnin
Bnei Sakhnin F.C. (, , ) is an Israeli professional football club based at the Doha Stadium in Sakhnin. They are the most successful club among the Arab-Israeli clubs in the country, having won the State Cup in 2004. History Early years Bnei Sakhnin was formed in 1991 by a merger of Maccabi Sakhnin and Hapoel Sakhnin. They were promoted to Liga Artzit (then the second tier) in 1997. In 1998–99 they finished in the relegation zone, but were reprieved when Maccabi Jaffa, who had finished bottom of the top division, were relegated three leagues due to financial problems. In 2002–03 the club finished as runners-up and promoted alongside fellow Israeli-Arab club Maccabi Ahi Nazareth, becoming the joint-second Israeli-Arab club to play in the top flight after Hapoel Tayibe. Doha Stadium (, ''Etztadion Doḥa''; ) is the current home of Bnei Sakhnin. History Located in the Israeli city of Sakhnin, Doha Stadium was built with public funds largely from the State of Israel and the Qatar National Olympic Committee, and was named after the Qatari capital, Doha. Hapoel Taibe
Hapoel Tayibe F.C. () was an Israeli football club based in Tayibe. In 1996 they became the first ever Israeli Arab club to play in the top division. However, they were relegated at the end of their first season in the top flight, and folded in 2003 after three more relegations. History The club was founded in 1961, and joined Liga Gimel. In 1974 the club was promoted to Liga Bet, and in 1986 to Liga Alef, the third tier at the time. In 1993 Hapoel were promoted to Liga Artzit. In their first season in the second tier the club finished fifth, missing out on the promotion play-off spot by five points. The Crazy Gang is a nickname coined by the English media in reference to the Wimbledon F.C. teams of the 1980s and '90s. Hapoel (, ) is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. 2003–04 Israeli Premier League
The 2003–04 Israeli Premier League season was held between 13 September 2003 and 22 May 2004. For the first time, there were two Israeli Arab clubs in the top division; Maccabi Ahi Nazareth and Bnei Sakhnin. Maccabi Haifa won the title, whilst Nazareth and Maccabi Netanya were relegated. Bnei Sakhnin (who qualified for Europe by winning the State Cup) became the first Arab club to spend more than a single season in the top flight. Teams and Locations Twelve teams took part in the 2003-04 Israeli Premier League season, including ten teams from the 2002-03 season, as well as two teams which were promoted from the 2002-03 Liga Leumit. Lior Asulin
Lior Asulin (; 6 October 1980 – 7 October 2023) was an Israeli footballer who played as a striker. He was murdered during the Nova music festival massacre by Hamas militants in the attack which led to the outbreak of the Gaza war. Career Maccabi Herzliya and Ariel Shaiman A native of Ra'anana, Israel, Asulin grew up in the youth system of Maccabi Herzliya and it was there that he made the jump to Israel's highest league, Israeli Premier League but did not last long as the club was relegated just two seasons after he made the first team. In Liga Leumit Lior scored a league leading twenty-eight goals, so after the 2001–02 season, club chairman Ariel Shaiman loaned Lior out to clubs in the top league and signed him to a long term contract with Herzliya hoping to cash in on a large transfer fee. Kiryat Eliezer Stadium
The Haifa Municipal Stadium (, ''Etztadion HaIroni Haifa''), more commonly known as Kiryat Eliezer (), was a multi-use stadium in the Kiryat Eliezer neighborhood of Haifa, Israel. It was mostly used for football matches and as the home stadium of Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Haifa. At 2014, It was replaced by the new Sammy Ofer Stadium, located at the southern entrance to the city. Background The stadium, officially called Haifa Municipal Stadium or Luigi Antonini Stadium, was built in 1955, as a gift from the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. It seats 14,002 among its 14 gates. Ownership of the stadium belonged to the Municipality of Haifa, though it was managed by a suborganization called ETHOS.
