Blyth Arena
Blyth Arena was an ice skating arena in the western United States, located at Squaw Valley, California. It was built in 1959 as venue for ice hockey, figure skating competitions, and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1960 Winter Olympics. With a seating capacity of 8,500, standing-room crowds of 10,000 were reported for the hockey games between the U.S. and the Soviet Union (on the penultimate day) and the U.S.-Czechoslovakia game during the final day. The elevation of the rink was above sea level. Named for Charles R. Blyth, an investment banker who led the California Olympic Commission, Blyth Arena was open on its south side, enabling a view of the mountains. Palisades Tahoe
Palisades Tahoe is a ski resort in the western United States, located in Olympic Valley, California, northwest of Tahoe City in the Sierra Nevada range. From its founding in 1949, the resort was known as Squaw Valley, but it changed its name in 2021 due to the derogatory connotations of the word "squaw". It was the host site for the 1960 Winter Olympics. The Palisades Tahoe resort is the largest skiing complex in the Lake Tahoe region, and is known for its challenging terrain. With a base elevation of and a skiable across six peaks, employing 30 chairlifts (including a tramway and the only funitel in the U.S.). It tops out at at Granite Chief, and averages of annual snowfall. The resort attracts approximately 600,000 skiers a year, and is also home to several annual summer events. David Jenkins (figure Skater)
David Wilkinson Jenkins (born June 29, 1936) is an American former figure skater. He is the 1960 Olympic champion, the 1956 Olympic bronze medalist, a three-time World champion, and a four-time U.S. national champion. Personal life Jenkins was born on June 29, 1936, in Akron, Ohio. He is the younger brother of Hayes Alan Jenkins, also an American former figure skater. He studied at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine during his competitive career. He took a leave of absence during his time with Ice Follies. After graduating in 1963, he became a practicing physician. Jenkins graduated with an M.D. in 1963 and immediately after served two years in the U.S. Air Force. In June of 1965 he married Barbara Ruth Boling and settled in Tulsa, where he became a gastroenterologist. Neither his wife nor his three children skate. For the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley, California, in the United States, a total of five sports venues were used. Except for the Palisades Tahoe, all of the venues had to be constructed. For the first time in Winter Olympic history, a temporary venue was constructed at McKinney Creek for biathlon, cross-country skiing, and Nordic combined. A bobsleigh track was not constructed over the guarantees from the FIBT not being able to field the minimum twelve teams needed to compete, making it the only time bobsleigh has not been included in the Winter Olympics. Garner Ted Armstrong (February 9, 1930 – September 15, 2003) was an American evangelist and the son of Herbert W. Armstrong, founder of the Worldwide Church of God, at the time a Sabbatarian organization that taught observance of seventh-day Sabbath and annual Sabbath days based on Leviticus 23. Armstrong initially became recognized when he succeeded his father as the voice of '' The World Tomorrow'', the church's radio program that aired around the world. A television program of the same name followed, aired mostly in North America, eventually giving way to a ''Garner Ted Armstrong'' broadcast, a half-hour program that mixed news and biblical commentary.
