Reception The album received mostly positive reviews from critics. Zach Kelly of ''Pitchfork'' gave the album a score of 72/100, calling it "ambitious and arresting". Alex Young of ''Consequence'' gave the album a "B" rating, describing it as "gelatinous sorrow, powdered with ambiance, and riddled with the fruits of every rendezvous gone awry." Coma Cinema is an American indie pop band formed by Mat Cothran in 2005. Cothran began writing songs for the band during his high school days in Spartanburg, but the band was later based in Asheville, North Carolina. History Cothran began writing songs under the name Coma Cinema early in his teens. After years of performing locally, Cothran released a collection of his recordings in January 2009, entitled ''Baby Prayers''. ''Baby Prayers'' caught the attention of music blogs and websites—including Pitchfork.com, who posted the music video for "Flower Pills" in February 2010. In June 2010, Coma Cinema followed up with their second album, ''Stoned Alone''. Coma Cinema's third album, '' Blue Suicide'', was released in March 2011 both digitally through Bandcamp and physical formats (Wonderbeard Tapes released cassette tapes; Fork and Spoon Records pressed the vinyl). Lo-fi (also typeset as lofi or low-fi; short for low fidelity) is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections in the context of a recording or performance are present, sometimes as a deliberate stylistic choice. The standards of sound quality (fidelity) and music production have evolved over the decades, meaning that some older examples of lo-fi may not have been originally recognized as such. ''Posthumous Release'' is the fourth studio album by American indie pop band Coma Cinema. The album was released on June 11, 2013, on Fork and Spoon Records. According to discogs: "Posthumous Release contains small, quietly desperate music, where Mat Cothran proves adept at finding the minute differences between a sigh, a shrug, and a sulk. These songs are minimal in every aspect, his flat, sullen voice at the front of mousey, sparse arrangements, all acoustic strums and brushed snares." A coma is a deep state of prolonged unconsciousness in which a person cannot be awakened, fails to respond normally to painful stimuli, light, or sound, lacks a normal sleep-wake cycle and does not initiate voluntary actions.
