Blue Ribbon Survey
The Blue Ribbon Survey () is South Korea's first restaurant guide established in November 2005. It is published every year reflecting the evaluation data of the general public collected through its website. History According to an interview with Weekly Hankook, editor-in-chief Kim Eun-jo had been planning the Blue Ribbon Survey since 1999. At that time, however, evaluation was meaningless because there were not a lot of restaurants in South Korea and the quality of food and service was low. After the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the number of restaurants nationwide and their quality increased, so the survey could begin in 2005. Kim also claimed that the survey combined the strengths of the Michelin Guide and Zagat Survey. ''Hankook Ilbo'' () is a Korean-language daily newspaper in Seoul, South Korea. As of 2017, it had a daily circulation of about 213,200. It was previously published by the Hankook Ilbo Media Group, however following an embezzlement scandal in 2013–2014 it was sold to Dongwha Enterprise, which also owns ''The Korea Times''. Political position ''Hankook Ilbo'' tends to be economically centre-right and socially centre-left. ''Hankook Ilbo'' is a "liberal" media, but this is different from the meaning of "liberal" in the American political context. ''Hankook Ilbo'' officially doesn't put forward ideology other than "centrism". However, ''Hankook Ilbo'' has basically shown a fiscal conservative tone that values "fiscal responsibility". Zagat Survey
The ''Zagat Survey'', commonly referred to as Zagat (stylized in all caps; , ) and established by Tim and Nina Zagat in 1979, is an organization which collects and correlates the ratings of restaurants by diners. For their first guide, covering New York City, the Zagats surveyed their friends. At its height around 2005, the ''Zagat Survey'' included 70 cities, with reviews based on the input of 250,000 individuals with the guides reporting on and rating restaurants, hotels, nightlife, shopping, zoos, museums, music, movies, theaters, golf courses, and airlines. The guides are sold in book form, and were formerly only available as a paid subscription on the Zagat website.
