Blue Lips
''Blue Lips'' is the third studio album by Swedish singer Tove Lo. It was released on 17 November 2017 by Island Records. ''Blue Lips'' is considered the second half of a two-piece concept album that describe "highs, lows and ultimate demise of a relationship." Its chapters "Light Beams" and "Pitch Black" succeed the chapters "Fairy Dust" and "Fire Fade" from her previous album '' Lady Wood'' (2016). In addition to the return of songwriter-producers such as the Struts, Ali Payami and Joe Janiak, the album features new collaborations with Alex Hope and Lulou, among others. Daye Jack is the only featured artist on the album. Musically, the album has been described as "sharply conceived dance-pop" and it is noted to follow the "hypnotizing electro-pop vein" of the preceding album that also features hip-hop and trap-influenced production. Tove Lo
Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson (born 29 October 1987), known professionally as Tove Lo (), is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She has been called "Sweden's darkest pop export" by ''Rolling Stone.'' She is known for her raw, grunge-influenced take on pop music. Her honest, complex and autobiographical lyrical content has led to her being dubbed "the saddest girl in Sweden". Raised in the Djursholm district of Danderyd, Lo is an alumna of the music school Rytmus Musikergymnasiet. She formed the rock band Tremblebee in 2006. After it disbanded, Lo pursued a career in songwriting and earned a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music in 2011. Working with producers Alexander Kronlund, Max Martin, and Xenomania, she became a successful songwriter, while also recording and releasing her own compositions independently. Fairy Dust (film)
''Fairy Dust'' is a 2016 short film co-produced, co-written and starring Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo. The film coincides with the first "chapter", or first six songs, of Lo's second album, ''Lady Wood'', which was released on October 28, 2016. The film was released on YouTube and Vevo on October 31, 2016. Plot The film opens with Tove Lo (played by herself) returning to her motel room late at night. As she crosses the parking lot and ascends the stairs, she begins laughing maniacally, screaming in rage and crying shortly after (Fairy Dust – Chapter I). ''Blue Lips'' is a 2018 short film co-produced, co-written and starring Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo. The film was released on YouTube and Vevo on 19 October 2018, and features ten songs, nine from Lo's third studio album, ''Blue Lips'' (2017), and one from her second studio album, '' Lady Wood'' (2016). It was directed and written by Malia James with Lo working on the screenplay as well while Nathan Scherrer and Laura Haber served as executive producers. Unlike ''Fairy Dust'', one of Lo's previous short films, ''Blue Lips'' featured parts of the songs instead of using them completely, also it mixes a diegetic and non-diegetic use of the songs. Trap Music
Trap is a subgenre of hip hop music that originated in the Southern United States during the 1990s. The genre gets its name from the Atlanta slang word "trap", a house used exclusively to sell drugs. Trap music uses synthesized drums and is characterized by complex hi-hat patterns, tuned kick drums with a long decay (originally from the Roland TR-808 drum machine), and lyrical content that often focuses on drug use and urban violence. It utilizes very few instruments and focuses almost exclusively on snare drums and double- or triple-timed hi-hats.
