The population was 3,661 at the 2020 census. The Town of East Bloomfield is in the western part of the county, south of Rochester, New York, Rochester. History The area was originally the territory of the Iroquois confederacy. The Seneca tribe, Seneca village Ganondagan was destroyed by the Jacques-René de Brisay de Denonville, Marquis de Denonville, Marquis de Denonville in 1687 as part of his campaign against the tribe. The Ganondagan State Historic Site was part of the original Town of Bloomfield, but in the present day is part of the town of Victor, New York, Victor. The Village of Bloomfield is in the Town of East Bloomfield and is west of Canandaigua. History The village was part of the Phelps and Gorham Purchase (1788). It was incorporated in 1990 to combine the two adjacent communities of Holcomb and East Bloomfield. Bristol is a town in Ontario County, New York, United States. The population was 2,298 at the 2020 census. Bristol was named after Bristol County, Massachusetts, by settlers from New England. The town of Bristol is in the western half of the county, southwest of the city of Canandaigua. History The region was visited by the explorers Robert de La Salle and René de Bréhant de Galinée in 1669 in order to observe a burning spring known to the area's indigenous members of the Seneca tribe. Such "burning springs" occur in places where the water appears to support a flame caused by escaping natural gas.
