Blood Wars (card Game)
''Blood Wars'' is an out-of-print collectible card game produced by TSR, based on the Planescape campaign setting from ''Dungeons & Dragons''. Publication history The game was released in March 1995 as part of TSR's 20th anniversary. The original release contained 334 cards in the set, sold in 15-card booster packs and two 50-card dual decks. Card art was designed by various artists, including Tony DiTerlizzi, Newt Ewell, Henry Higgenbotham, Jennell Jaquays, Dana Knutson, Rob Lazzaretti, Robin Raab, Robh Ruppel, and Dave Sutherland. A series of expansion sets called ''escalation packs'' were scheduled for publication. ''Insurgents of the Inner Planes'' never materialized and was halted at the printer in February 1996. The player guide '' Warlord's Tactical Manual'' was published in January 1996. Gameplay Players use cards representing Warlords and Legions for combat to claim Battlefield cards. Steven Schend
Steven E. Schend (born 1967 in Madison, Wisconsin) is an American game designer and editor who has worked on a number of products for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' fantasy role-playing game from TSR throughout the 1990s. Biography Steven Schend was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1967. Schend developed an interest in the worlds of L. Frank Baum's Oz and Edgar Rice Burroughs Edgar Rice Burroughs (September 1, 1875 – March 19, 1950) was an American writer, best known for his prolific output in the adventure, science fiction, and fantasy genres. Dana Knutson
Dana Knutson is an artist best known for his work on role-playing game products. Career Dana Knutson has had a long career as an artist on role-playing games. He worked at FASA for 10 years, producing art on numerous works for their ''Star Trek'' and ''Shadowrun'' RPGs. He came to work for TSR in 1993 to produce artwork for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' game, initially largely with the Planescape line. He created the Lady of Pain from one of his doodles. David "Zeb" Cook, designer of Planescape, explained Knutson's role in developing the setting: "It was at this early stage that I had my biggest idea - I needed an artist. Allen Varney
Allen Varney (born 1958) is an American writer and game designer. Varney has produced numerous books, role-playing game supplements, technical manuals, articles, reviews, columns, and stories, as well as the fantasy novel ''Cast of Fate'' ( TSR, 1996). Since the 1990s, he has worked primarily in computer games. Early life Varney was born in St. Louis, Missouri and was raised by his mother, Marcelene Varney. He graduated from Reno High School in 1976 and has a dual B.A. in English and history from the University of Nevada, Reno. ''Warlord's Tactical Manual'' is a book about '' Blood Wars'' published by TSR in January 1996. Contents ''Warlord's Tactical Manual'' is a book which presents several variations on how to play the game, as well as new official rules for the game and a full listing with pictures of the cards used in the game. Reception Chris Baylis reviewed ''Warlord's Tactical Manual'' for ''Arcane'' magazine, rating it a 4 out of 10 overall. ''The Duelist'' (or simply ''Duelist'' as it was renamed) was a trading card game magazine published by Wizards of the Coast. History The first full issue was distributed in Fall 1993 as a quarterly magazine to accompany the increasingly popular '' Magic: The Gathering'' trading card game. Prior the 1st issue, a special one-time Duelist Issue #0 was released and given away at Gen Con 1993. This issue was eight pages that included a couple of news articles and a deck construction guide. It later became a monthly gaming magazine in March 1995 with simply a focus on the collectible card game and trading card game industry before publication ceased in September 1999.
