Blood Brother
Blood brother can refer to two or more people not related by birth who have sworn loyalty to each other. This is in modern times usually done in a ceremony, known as a blood oath, where each person makes a small cut, usually on a finger, hand, or the forearm, and then the two cuts are pressed together and bound, the symbolism being that each person's blood now flows in the other participant's veins. The act carries a risk due to blood-borne diseases. The process usually provides a participant with a heightened symbolic sense of attachment with the other participant. Clifford Nelson Fyle (March 29, 1933 – January 18, 2006) was a Sierra Leonean academic and author, known for writing the lyrics to the Sierra Leone National Anthem. Early life Clifford Nelson Fyle was born and raised in Freetown, British Sierra Leone to Creole parents. He attended Methodist Boys' High School in Freetown, and Fourah Bay College, which was then an accredited college of the University of Durham. Fyle obtained a Bachelor's degree in Languages and Mathematics aged 20, before spending the next few years teaching at his former High School. He later continued his education in Durham proper, studying English at Hatfield College. He returned to Sierra Leone after his graduation in 1960.
