Blon
Blon (; ; ) is an agrotown in Pukhavichy District, Minsk Region, Belarus. It serves as the administrative center of Blon selsoviet. History Historically Blon (Błoń) belonged to Igumensky Uyezd in the Russian Empire, which was earlier part of in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It is associated with Jesuit priest and poet Józef Baka, who established there a Jesuit monastery in about 1745 and a wooden church of John the Baptist around 1748. After his death, it was passed to the Jesuit order, and after the suppression of the Jesuits the properties were seized by a Poniński and later passed to Ossowskis of Dołęga coat of arms. In 1863, they were sequestrated as a punishment for taking part in the January Uprising, and in 1868, they were sold to a civil official, Bończ-Osmołowski (Иосиф Александрович Бонч-Осмоловский), from which lands the properties of ''włościans'' ( :pl:włościanin, a land-owning peasant) were separated, leaving about 2 ... Agrotown (Belarus)
An agrotown (; ) is an official type of rural settlement in Belarus introduced by a law passed in 1998. The law defines agrotowns as well-developed rural settlements with industrial and social infrastructure to ensure social standards for population living there and in the surrounding areas. The law further says that if a ''selsoviet'' (rural council) has agrotowns, its administrative center must be in an agrotown. If there is more than one agrotown, the selsoviet center is assigned by the Districts of Belarus, District Council of Deputies. The Belarusian government launched the program "State program for the revival and development of rural areas, for years 2005-2010" (), which provided for the establishment of agrotowns. By the end of the time allotted for the program, i.e., by January 2011, 1,512 agrotowns were established in Belarus, with about 8,000 new houses built. Józef Baka
Józef Baka (; died 1780) was a late Baroque poet, Jesuit priest and missionary. Born in March of either 1706 or 1707, probably in Nowogrodek, Baka is regarded as one of the most prominent poets of the 18th century Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Life Early years Little is known about early days of his life, furthermore, no portrait of Baka has been found so far. He was born into a wealthy family living in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and his father Adam Baka was a treasurer of the Mscislaw Voivodeship. Baka entered the Society of Jesus on July 16, 1723 and in 1735 he was ordained a priest, five years later becoming a monk. He studied at the Vilna Academy, but little is known about his curriculum. It has only been established that Baka passed a theology exam on May 7, 1736. Also, in late 1730s, he lectured rhetorics at the Academy. Morgen
A Morgen (Mg) is a historical, but still occasionally used, German unit of area used in agriculture. Officially, it is no longer in use, having been supplanted by the hectare. While today it is approximately equivalent to the Prussian ''morgen'', measuring 25 ares or 2,500 square meters (), its area once ranged from , but usually between . In the 20th century, the quarter hectare became standard for one ''morgen''. The Morgen unit of land measurement was also used in the Netherlands, Poland, Lithuania, and parts of the Dutch colonial empire, such as South Africa. It was also used in the Balkans, Norway, and Denmark, where it was equal to about . January Uprising
The January Uprising was an insurrection principally in Russia's Kingdom of Poland that was aimed at putting an end to Russian occupation of part of Poland and regaining independence. It began on 22 January 1863 and continued until the last insurgents were captured by the Russian forces in 1864. It was the longest-lasting insurgency in partitioned Poland. The conflict engaged all levels of society and arguably had profound repercussions on contemporary international relations and ultimately transformed Polish society. A confluence of factors rendered the uprising inevitable in early 1863. The Polish nobility and urban bourgeois circles longed for the semi-autonomous status they had enjoyed in Congress Poland before the previous insurgency, a generation earlier in 1830, and youth encouraged by the success of the Italian independence movement urgently desired the same outcome.
