Hugo Leander Blomquist
Hugo Leander Blomquist (June 5, 1888 – November 28, 1964) was a Swedish-born American botanist. His well rounded expertise encompassed fungi, bacteria, bryophytes, algae, grasses, and ferns. Early life Although several sources state his birth year as 1885, Blomquist was actually born in 1888 in Sorsele, Sweden. In 1892, his family emigrated to Kulm, North Dakota. He earned his B.S. in botany from the University of Chicago in 1916. He enrolled in graduate school, but his studies were interrupted by World War I. From 1917 to 1919, Blomquist served as a musician first class in the U.S. Army. After the war, he briefly studied at Pasteur Institute before finishing his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. Rich Blomquist (born July 27, 1977) is an American writer, producer and occasional actor. He was a former staff writer for ''The Daily Show''. The show won six Emmy awards during his employment; in 2003–2006, 2009 and 2011. Career He has also contributed material to ''Saturday Night Live'', specifically for Robert Smigel's ''TV Funhouse''. Blomquist is originally from Westbrook, Connecticut. He graduated in 2000 from the School of Communications at Elon University in North Carolina. Blomquist and his wife Kristen Schaal wrote a book together called ''The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex''. It was published in July 2010 by Chronicle Books. Michael Blomquist (born August 14, 1981 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina) is an American rower and a former World Champion. Education Blomquist was educated at Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard University. He then enrolled at St Peter's College, Oxford where he undertook a Master of Science degree in Nature, Society & Environmental Policy. The Boat Race Whilst at Oxford University, Blomquist was a member of Oxford University Boat Club and took part in the Boat Race in 2005.
