Carl Block
Carl Elis Daniel Block (12 February 18746 October 1948) was Bishop of Gothenburg from 1929 until 1948. He was the half-brother of the mathematician Henrik Block and father of the doctor Erik Block and educator Bertil Block. He was a cousin of John Cullberg. Biography Block was born in Öxnevalla in Älvsborg County, Sweden to Anders Herder Block, a contractor in Örby, and Charlotta Elisabet Cullberg. Block graduated from the Gothenburg Higher Latin Language School on 3 June 1891, after which he studied in Lund in the fall of 1891, becoming a candidate of philosophy on 31 January 1895. He did his theoretical exam and practical theological exam on 14 December 1897 and a dissertation trial on 8 September 1910, where he introduced The judgment chapter in his dissertation titled "Kristologien i Hegelsk bearbetning (The Hologram of Hegelian Processing)". Frank Block (Australian Politician)
Arthur Francis Kelly "Frank" Block (21 June 1899 – 4 March 1971) was an Australian politician. Born in Echuca to labourer Albert Alfred Block and Annie Kelly, he attended state schools and served in the Australian Imperial Force's 46th Battalion during World War I; he was wounded and sent home to Preston around 1915. Around 1919, he married Louisa Rubena Adelaide Davis, with whom he had six children; he would remarry around 1942 to Vida Winifred Ross. Block, who worked as a building contractor, was a member of the Labor Party in the 1930s but joined the Liberal Party at its formation. Francesca Lia Block (born December 3, 1962) is an American writer of adult and young-adult literature. She wrote the '' Weetzie Bat'' series, which she began while a student at UC Berkeley. Early life and education Block was born in Los Angeles in 1962. Her mother was a poet and her father was the screenwriter and painter Irving Block. She attended North Hollywood High School and the University of California, Berkeley, and later studied for her MFA from the University of California at Riverside. Career Block writes both novels and poetry. Her first two books, ''Moon Harvest'' (1978) and ''Season of Green'' (1979), were small-press illustrated poetry collections, now out of print. Eric Block (born January 25, 1942) is an American chemist whose research has focused on the chemistry of organosulfur and organoselenium compounds, ''Allium'' chemistry (the chemistry of garlic, onion, and other alliums), and the chemistry of olfaction. Dorothy Block
Dorothy Block (1904–November 5, 1984) was an American artist known for her paintings and visual arts. She was educated by her uncle, Louis Keila, at the Mary Baldwin College, and at the Art Students League of New York. She taught at the Art Students League and participated in the Federal Art Project, including writing a memoir about her experience as an artist in the early 20th century. Early life and education She was born in 1904 in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph and Rebecca Block, who had both immigrated to the United States in 1888 and 1889, respectively, from Russia and together they ran an import business. They had three daughters, Ethel, Dorothy, and Lilian. Joseph Block had a financial interest and was vice president and general manager of the Franco Electric Company until 1921. David Block
Brigadier David Arthur Kennedy William Block (13 June 1908 – 2001) was a British Army officer who, during the Second World War, won a Military Cross when commanding "C" Battery of the Ayrshire Yeomanry in North Africa and the DSO in Italy the following year. He was later appointed ADC to the Queen. Early life Block was born at Cothall in Aberdeenshire and was the twin brother of Major-General Adam Block. He was educated at Blundell's School in Tiverton and at the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich before being commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1928. In 1931, Block joined the 2nd Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery, and went with them to Cairo as adjutant. He was an instructor at RMA Woolwich in 1936 until the outbreak of war. Daniel Block
Daniel Block ( – 1853) was a Jewish leader who founded the B'nai B'rith synagogue in St. Louis, Missouri. He lived for only four years in the United States but he made important contributions on the culture of the St. Louis Jewish community to which he belonged. Between his arrival in about 1848, and his death in 1853, he contributed greatly to the organization and development of B'nai El congregation. Early life Daniel Block was probably born in Bohemia in or around 1802 but no birth record has been located. In the 1850 United States City of St. Louis Census he stated his profession as butcher and his birthplace as Germany. The 1850 census entry for his wife Sarah Wedeles and his children stated they were born in Germany. At this time the family lived in Ward 1 of the City of St. Louis, close to the Mississippi River and south of the Eads Bridge.
