''Blizzard of Ozz'' is the debut studio album by English heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne, released on 12 September 1980 in the UK and on 27 March 1981 in the US. The album was Osbourne's first release following his firing from Black Sabbath in 1979. ''Blizzard of Ozz'' is the first of two studio albums Osbourne recorded with guitarist Randy Rhoads prior to Rhoads' death in 1982. In 2017, it was ranked 9th on ''Rolling Stone'' list of "100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time". Composition and recording Much of the album was written by guitarist Randy Rhoads, bassist Bob Daisley, and Ozzy Osbourne while staying at the Monnow Valley Studio near Monmouth, Wales, with a friend of Osbourne's named Barry Scrannage performing as the group's drummer. John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (born 3 December 1948) is an English singer, songwriter, and media personality. He rose to prominence during the 1970s as the lead singer of the heavy metal music, heavy metal band Black Sabbath, during which period he adopted the nickname "Prince of Darkness". Osbourne became a founding member of Black Sabbath in 1968, providing lead vocals from Black Sabbath (album), their self-titled debut album in 1970 to ''Never Say Die!'' in 1978. Clearwell Castle
Clearwell Castle in Clearwell, the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, is a Gothic Revival house constructed from 1727. Built by Thomas Wyndham to the designs of Roger Morris, it is the earliest Georgian Gothic Revival castle in England predating better-known examples such as Strawberry Hill House by over twenty years. A home of the Wyndham family for some 150 years, the first half of the twentieth century saw a disastrous fire, and subsequent asset-stripping, which brought the castle close to ruination. "Goodbye to Romance" is a song written by Ozzy Osbourne, Bob Daisley and Randy Rhoads from Osbourne's 1980 album ''Blizzard of Ozz''. A ballad, the song has been characterized as influenced by the chord progressions of Pachelbel's Canon (or the Canon in D) by composer Johann Pachelbel.
