Blizzard Bash
Blizzard Bash is an annual demolition derby event held in Stormont Vail Events Center in Topeka, Kansas, US. It is the world's largest indoor demolition derby, with over 250 drivers from all over the U.S. and Canada competing in 12 different events. The main event is a four-person team, sixteen team bracket-style tournament team derby, in which the winner is crowned team National Champions. The event occurs over a four-day period in mid-November. There are other modified and stock one heat classes in which drivers compete. History The first Blizzard Bash event was held in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 2001 at the Lancaster Event Center. In 2010, the event moved to Topeka. It has gained popularity every year and is known for its hard-hitting, fast-paced action. It was voted as the "best demolition derby in the world" in 2014. Demolition derby is a type of motorsport, usually presented at county fairs and national events. While rules vary from event to event, the typical demolition derby event consists of five or more drivers competing by deliberately ramming their vehicles into one another. The last driver whose vehicle is still operational is awarded the victory. Demolition derbies originated in the United States and quickly spread to other Western nations. Stormont Vail Events Center
The Stormont Vail Events Center, formerly known as Kansas Expocentre, is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose arena built in 1987 in Topeka, Kansas. Previously, the Topeka Sizzlers of the Continental Basketball Association, Kansas Koyotes indoor football team,Topeka Tarantulas, Topeka ScareCrows, Topeka Pilots ice hockey and Topeka Tropics of the National Arena League (NAL) teams played there. Many other shows, including concerts, perform here. The Kansas Expocentre was renamed on June 13, 2019, to the Stormont Vail Events Center after signing a ten-year partnership agreement with Topeka-based Stormont Vail Health. It has hosted the Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 5A boys and girls state basketball tournaments since its opening, and the KSHSAA Class 5A and 6A volleyball state championships since 1992. Lancaster Event Center
The Sandhills Global Event Center, known as the Lancaster Event Center until December 2023, is a public nonprofit fairgrounds-style event complex located in Lincoln, Nebraska owned and operated by the Lancaster County Agricultural Society. It was originally built to provide a permanent home for the Lancaster County Fair and other community events. It has hosted farm shows, trade shows, tractor pulls, swap meets, 4-H club meetings, Lincoln City Libraries book sales, and rodeos.
