Blind Zero
Blind Zero are a Portuguese rock band from the city of Porto. They won the 2003 MTV Europe Music Award for the Best Portuguese Act. History Blind Zero started out 1994 releasing their first EP, ''Recognize'' (1995), which sold out in nine days, and is today a collection item. The first album ''Trigger'' (1995), was produced by Ronnie Champagne. It was the first rock album by a Portuguese band to reach the gold label. In 1996, Blind Zero revealed a new sound with the ''Flexogravity'' EP, a very experimental record with a fusion of sounds, shared with a hip-hop band from Porto, Mind da Gap. This was considered by many the EP of the year. Also in 1996, the band recorded an acoustic album, ''Transradio'', one of the first Enhanced CDs (CD Extra) in Europe. Miguel Guedes
Miguel Guedes (born 10 May 1972, in Porto) is a Portuguese musician, songwriter, singer, and the lead vocalist of Portuguese band Blind Zero. He is also a lawyer, and has a column where he writes about politics on the Portuguese journal Jornal de Notícias. He is an employee of the GDA - ''Cooperativa de Gestão dos Direitos dos Artistas Intérpretes ou Executantes'', dealing with related rights issues. Miguel Guedes appears on the weekly RTP programme ''Trio D'Ataque'' (with Nuno Miguel Gonçalves and others) where he talks about football and expresses his point of view as a lover of football and a supporter of FC Porto. Since February 2023 he has been the chairman of Coliseu do Porto. He votes Bloco de Esquerda and writes for the official party's online publication Esquerda.net. Morphine (band)
Morphine was an American rock band formed by Mark Sandman, Dana Colley, and Jerome Deupree in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1989. Drummer Billy Conway also played in the band, frequently during Deupree's absence, though at times both played together. After five successful albums and extensive touring, they disbanded after lead vocalist Sandman died of a heart attack onstage in Palestrina, Italy, on July 3, 1999. Founding members have reformed into the band Vapors of Morphine, maintaining much of the original style and sound. Morphine combined blues and jazz elements with more traditional rock arrangements, giving the band an unusual sound. Sandman sang distinctively in a "deep, laid-back croon", and his songwriting featured a prominent beat influence. Jorge Palma
Jorge Manuel de Abreu Palma (born 4 June 1950) is a Portuguese singer and songwriter. A well-known and acclaimed songwriter in Portugal, Palma has achieved success with songs such as "Deixa-me Rir", "Frágil" and "Encosta-te a Mim". Early life Jorge Palma was born in Lisbon on 4 June 1950. At the age of 6, Palma learned to play the piano and to read. Pedro Abrunhosa
Pedro Machado Abrunhosa (born 20 December 1960) is a Portuguese singer, songwriter, musician and composer. Trained in jazz music, Abrunhosa started his career in the 1980s playing in jazz bands and teaching in music and art schools in Porto. He is a co-founder of the Jazz School of Porto. In 1994 Abrunhosa launched a solo career in pop music with his debut album ''Viagens''. Ornatos Violeta are a Portuguese rock band from Porto. The band, often referred to simply as Ornatos, consists of vocalist Manel Cruz, bassist Nuno Prata, guitarist Peixe and drummer Kinörm, with Elísio Donas at the keyboard. Their main period of activity was between 1991 and 2002. Since then, the band as reunited twice: in 2012 and in 2018. Ornatos Violeta, whose music is influenced by funk, jazz and ska, grew over the years to become a reference of Portuguese music of the late 1990s. Silence 4
Silence 4 were a Portuguese band, formed in 1996, who mostly sung in English. They released two albums to high critical acclaim, ''Silence Becomes It'' (1998) and ''Only Pain Is Real'' (2000). The band never officially disbanded, but went on an undetermined hiatus from 2001 to 2013, when their members decided to reunite for a brief tour after Sofia Lisboa underwent cancer treatment. Gumball (band)
Gumball was an American rock band formed in New York City in 1991. The original lineup consisted of Don Fleming (vocals and guitar), Eric Vermillion (vocals, bass), and Jay Spiegel (drums). In 1992, a fourth member was added, Malcolm Riviera (guitar, keyboards) who had previously played with Fleming and Spiegel in the Velvet Monkeys. History After Fleming and Spiegel's group B.A.L.L. broke up in 1990, the duo briefly joined Dinosaur Jr. and released one single on the Sub Pop label. Teenage Fan Club
Teenage Fanclub are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in Bellshill near Glasgow in 1989. The group were founded by Norman Blake (vocals, guitar), Raymond McGinley (vocals, lead guitar) and Gerard Love (vocals, bass), all of whom shared lead vocals and songwriting duties until Love's departure in 2018. As of 2019, the band's lineup consists of Blake, McGinley, Francis Macdonald (drums, vocals), Dave McGowan (bass, vocals) and Euros Childs (keyboards, vocals). In concert, the band usually alternate among its songwriters, giving equal playing time to each one's songs. Screaming Trees
Screaming Trees was an American rock band formed in Ellensburg, Washington, in 1984 by vocalist Mark Lanegan, guitarist Gary Lee Conner, bass player Van Conner, and drummer Mark Pickerel. Pickerel had been replaced by Barrett Martin by the time the band reached its most successful period.
