''Blessed Be'' is the fifth studio album by Finnish rock band the 69 Eyes, released in 2000 by Gaga Goodies/Poko Rekords. The first single was "Gothic Girl", followed by "Brandon Lee". There are many references throughout the album to the 1990s cult film and comic book ''The Crow''. For example, Brandon Lee, the lead actor who was shot and killed by accident while on the set, is also the name of the fourth track on the album. The song is a tribute to his memory. The 69 Eyes
The 69 Eyes are a Finnish rock band. It was founded in 1989 in Helsinki by vocalist Jyrki 69 (who also writes the band's lyrics), guitarists Bazie, Timo-Timo and bassist Archzie, joined in 1992 by drummer Jussi 69; the lineup never changed since then. The 69 Eyes music blends gothic rock with glam metal and rock 'n' roll in a style that was dubbed "goth'n'roll". The 69 Eyes is currently signed to EMI Finland. The band's albums are now distributed worldwide; The End Records acts as the band's official North American distributor, as Nuclear Blast Records provides distribution in Europe. Gothic Rock
Gothic rock (also called goth rock or simply goth) is a style of rock music that emerged from post-punk in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. The first post-punk bands which shifted toward dark music with gothic overtones include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, and the Cure. The genre itself was defined as a separate movement from post-punk. Gothic rock stood out due to its darker sound, with the use of primarily minor or bass chords, reverb, dark arrangements, or dramatic and melancholic melodies, having inspirations in gothic literature allied with themes such as sadness, nihilism, dark romanticism, tragedy, melancholy and morbidity. These themes are often approached poetically. Poko Rekords
Poko Rekords was a Finnish record label. It was established in 1977, but ceased operations in 2009. In the early years, Poko Rekords focused mainly on punk and rockabilly music and later expanded its artist range to heavier rock music. Poko Rekords released records by many successful Finnish artists and bands. Among others, Eppu Normaali, Popeda, Hassisen Kone, Sielun Veljet, J. Karjalainen, Yö, Ismo Alanko, Petri Nygård, The 69 Eyes and Diablo were at Poko Rekords. Wasting The Dawn
''Wasting the Dawn'' is the fourth studio album by The 69 Eyes, released in 1999, produced by Gaga Goodies / Poko Rekords. It was released internationally on Roadrunner Records. The album's hit single, "Wasting the Dawn", paid tribute to The Doors' Jim Morrison. The video featured HIM member Ville Valo posing at a snowy cemetery as the ghost of Morrison. The title song is based on a line from "The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)", a song from The Doors' 1971 album ''L.A. Woman''. Valo also contributed backup singing. The Crow
The Crow is a supernatural superhero comic book series created by James O'Barr revolving around the titular character of the same name. The series, which was originally created by O'Barr as a means of dealing with the death of his fiancée at the hands of a drunk driver, was first published by Caliber Comics in 1989. Brandon Bruce Lee (February 1, 1965 – March 31, 1993) was an American actor and martial artist. Establishing himself as a rising action star in the early 1990s, he landed his breakthrough role as Eric Draven in the dark fantasy film ''The Crow'' (1994). Lee's career, however, was cut short by his accidental death during ''The Crow''s production. Lee was the son of martial artist and film star Bruce Lee, who died when he was eight years old. Ville Valo
Ville Hermanni Valo (; born 22 November 1976) is a Finnish singer, songwriter and musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the gothic rock band HIM. Born and raised in Helsinki to a Hungarian mother and Finnish father, Valo began his career playing bass and drums in various bands around the city. In 1991, he co-founded and became the lead singer and main songwriter of HIM, which would go on to become one of the most successful Finnish bands of all time and the first to receive a gold record in the United States. Outside of HIM, Valo has collaborated with various other bands and artists during his career, including Agents, The 69 Eyes, and Apocalyptica.
