Blenheim is a rural Suburbs and localities (Australia), locality in the Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Blenheim had a population of 264 people. History Originally the district was known as Sandy Creek, but later it was named Blenheim after Blenheim Park in Oxfordshire, England, which was in turn named after the Battle of Blenheim. Blenheim State School opened on 7 April 1879, with an initial enrolment of 73 pupils. In 1895, a Schwarzenau Brethren, German Baptist church was established at Blenheim under the leadership of C. Muetzelburg. As time passed, the desire for German-language church services diminished and, due to falling numbers attending, the church was closed and physically relocated to Laidley, Queensland, Laidley. Blenheim Lutheran Church opened on Sunday 31 March 1912. In 1938, it was relocated to Laidley to be used as a church hall for the Laidley Lutheran Church. Blenheim State School is a heritage-listed state school at 81 Blenheim Road, Blenheim, Queensland, Blenheim, Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Queensland Department of Public Works and built in 1900. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 28 February 2020. West Moreton was the name of two incarnations of an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. History The original district, named for the region it covered, took in all of the Brisbane River catchment area as well as Ipswich and Laidley, bordering New South Wales to the south. It elected three members from 1860 to 1873 and one member from 1873 until its abolition in 1878. The district was re-created in 1932 to take in an area west of Brisbane. It was abolished in 1949. Ted Maher (politician)
Edmund Bede "Ted" Maher (8 June 1891 – 31 December 1982) was an Australian politician, Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of Queensland 1936 to 1941 and Federal senator 1950 to 1965. Born in Forbes, New South Wales, he was educated at Catholic schools before becoming a post office worker and stock agent. In 1921, he moved to Queensland, becoming a grazier, as well as a businessman and company director. In 1929 he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as the Country Party member for Rosewood, transferring to West Moreton in 1932. He served as Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Country Party from 1936 to 1941. Maher was the last leader of his party who did not become Premier until Mike Horan (served 2001-2003, with the party now being known as the National Party). The Schwarzenau Brethren, the German Baptist Brethren, Dunkers, Dunkard Brethren, Tunkers, or sometimes simply called the German Baptists, are an Anabaptist group that dissented from Roman Catholic, Lutheran and Reformed European state churches during the 17th and 18th centuries.
