Mixture
In chemistry, a mixture is a material made up of two or more different chemical substances which can be separated by physical method. It is an impure substance made up of 2 or more elements or compounds mechanically mixed together in any proportion. A mixture is the physical combination of two or more substances in which the identities are retained and are mixed in the form of solutions, suspensions or colloids. Mixtures are one product of mechanically blending or mixing chemical substances such as elements and compounds, without chemical bonding or other chemical change, so that each ingredient substance retains its own chemical properties and makeup. Despite the fact that there are no chemical changes to its constituents, the physical properties of a mixture, such as its melting point, may differ from those of the components. Some mixtures can be separated into their components by using physical (mechanical or thermal) means. Azeotropes are one kind of mixture that usual ... Blend (album)
''Blend'' is the BoDeans sixth studio album, and was released in 1996. It peaked at number 132 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart. Overview After the band achieved fame and a new audience with '" Closer to Free", they resisted the pressure to duplicate the single's success and wanted to avoid rehashing the same formula. Like '' Go Slow Down'', the band chose to record their next album at Hacksville, their studio in a rented storefront, and self-produced the album with the assistance of producer/engineer Greg Goldman. Recording took place over a two-year period during the time in between tours. Bob Clearmountain was hired to mix "The Understanding" and "Hurt By Love", while Tchad Blake mixed the uptempo "Hey Pretty Girl". The result was a more rock-oriented sound than their previous album, though it continued along a similar direction. Reception Despite not matching the success of " Closer to Free", "Hurt By Love" saw minor chart success and critics commented on the album's consi ... Consonant Blend
In linguistics, a consonant cluster, consonant sequence or consonant compound is a group of consonants which have no intervening vowel. In English, for example, the groups and are consonant clusters in the word ''splits''. In the education field it is variously called a consonant cluster or a consonant blend. Some linguists argue that the term can be properly applied only to those consonant clusters that occur within one syllable. Others claim that the concept is more useful when it includes consonant sequences across syllable boundaries. According to the former definition, the longest consonant clusters in the word ''extra'' would be and , whereas the latter allows , which is phonetically in some accents. Phonotactics Each language has an associated set of phonotactic constraints. Languages' phonotactics differ as to what consonant clusters they permit. Many languages are more restrictive than English in terms of consonant clusters, and some forbid consonant clusters ... Blend (cigarette)
Blend is a Swedish brand of cigarettes. It was originally owned and manufactured by Swenska Tobaks AB and later Swedish Match AB, until Swedish Match AB sold the brand to Austria Tabak along with the rest of its cigarette production. History Blend was introduced in 1971 by Swenska Tobaks AB as a low-tar cigarette brand. The first variant, which came to be known as Yellow Blend after the color of the package, had 12 milligrams of tar. The following year, a menthol flavored variant was launched called Blend Blue. The Vita blend was introduced with a tar content of 8 mg in 1977, and then the variants Ultra (5 mg, launched in 1979) and Ultima (2 mg, launched in 1981). Although the company pushed towards lower tar content in its brands, it hasn't been shown that lower tar content is any less harmful. Markets The brand's focal market is Sweden, but its products are also available in Finland, Spain and Russia. See also * Tobacco smoking Tobacco smoking is the practice of ... Blending is possible at various stages of textile manufacturing. The term, ''blend'', refers to spun fibers or a fabric composed of such fibers. Polymer Blend
In materials science, a polymer blend, or polymer mixture, is a member of a class of materials analogous to metal alloys, in which at least two polymers are blended together to create a new material with different physical properties. History During the 1940s, '50s and '60s, the commercial development of new monomers for production of new polymers seemed endless. In this period, it was discovered that the development of the new techniques for the modification of the already existing polymers, would be economically viable. The first technique of modification developed was the polymerization, in other words, the joint polymerization of more than one kind of polymer. A new polymers modification process, based on a simple mechanical mixture of two polymers first appeared when Thomas Hancock created a mixture of natural rubber with gutta-percha. This process generated a new polymer class called "polymer blends." Basic concepts Polymer blends can be broadly divided into three catego ...
