Bleed For Me (Dead Kennedys Song)
"Bleed for Me" (B-side "Life Sentence") was the sixth single by punk rock band Dead Kennedys. It was released in July 1982 on Alternative Tentacles. The music is cold and intimidating, and the lyrics describe kidnappings and torture carried out by the secret police of an unnamed anticommunist dictatorship.The lyrics are not specific, but refer (among other things) to a visit by then-US President Ronald Reagan, who "forks out his tongue at human rights," before being invited to "dine on some charbroiled nun." This is likely an allusion to the 1980 murders of U.S. missionaries in El Salvador and the Reagan administration's uncritical support of El Salvador's military regime. There follows a bridge, then the music becomes light and almost cheerful as the lyrics describe US foreign policy as utilizing murderous dictatorships to secure economic concessions that favor American corporations. Dead Kennedys are an American punk rock band that formed in San Francisco, California, in 1978. The band was one of the defining punk bands during its initial eight-year run. Initially consisting of lead guitarist East Bay Ray, bassist Klaus Flouride, lead vocalist Jello Biafra, drummer Bruce Slesinger, Ted and rhythm guitarist Carlo Cadona, 6025, 6025 left in 1979, and Ted left the following year after the band recorded their acclaimed first album ''Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables'' (1980). Thatchergate
Thatchergate was the colloquial title of a hoax perpetrated by members of the anarcho-punk band Crass during the aftermath of the 1982 Falklands War. Using excerpts from speeches by Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Margaret Thatcher and President of the United States Ronald Reagan, a recording was spliced together which purported to be a telephone conversation between the two leaders. During the course of the tape, Reagan seems to state his intention to use Europe as a battle front to show the Soviet leaders the US's resolve in a nuclear conflict, whilst Thatcher appears to imply that HMS ''Sheffield'' was deliberately sacrificed to escalate the Falklands War.
