Harry Weetman
Harry Weetman (25 October 1920 – 19 July 1972) was an English professional golfer. Weetman won many tournaments on the British PGA circuit in the pre-European Tour era and won the Harry Vardon Trophy for lowest stroke average in 1952 and 1956. He finished in the top-10 at The Open Championship six times. Weetman played in the Ryder Cup in 1951, 1953, 1955, 1957, 1959, 1961 and 1963 and had a 2-11-2 win–loss–tie record, with both of his wins coming in singles matches. He captained the team in 1965. Weetman died in Redhill hospital on 19 July 1972 after being involved in a car accident on the Caterham bypass on 14 July. Patrick Christopher "Christy" O'Connor (21 December 1924 – 14 May 2016) was an Irish professional golfer. He was one of the leading golfers on the British and Irish circuit from the mid-1950s. O'Connor won over 20 important British and Irish tournaments and finished in the top 10 in the Open Championship on 10 occasions. Later he had considerable success in seniors events, twice winning the World Senior Championship. Jimmy Martin (golfer)
James Martin (1924 – 14 February 2000) was an Irish professional golfer who enjoyed three victories on the British circuit in the 1960s, including the Piccadilly Medal in 1964 and the Carroll's International in 1968. Martin was born in Wicklow. His father was the professional at Greystones Golf Club. He was selected to represent Ireland at five World Cups between 1962 and 1970, and also to represent Great Britain in the Ryder Cup at Royal Birkdale in 1965, where he would play in - and lose - one foursomes match, in partnership with Jimmy Hitchcock, to Julius Boros and Tony Lema. Anthony Jacklin CBE (born 7 July 1944) is a retired English golfer. He was the most successful British player of his generation, winning two major championships, the 1969 Open Championship and the 1970 U.S. Open. He was also Ryder Cup captain from 1983 to 1989; Europe winning two and tying another of these four events. Early life and education Jacklin was born on 7 July 1944 in the town of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. His father was a steel worker and his mother Dorothy worked at a market. Tony Grubb
Antony Gawen Grubb (22 July 1936 – 6 June 2017) was an English professional golfer. He is remembered for winning the 1964 Schweppes PGA Close Championship. Golf career In 1958 Grubb won the Gor-Ray Cup, the Assistants' Championship, at Hartsbourne Golf Club. He scored 285 and finished two strokes ahead of Brian Huggett. Grubb won the Schweppes PGA Close Championship at Western Gailes Golf Club in 1964 taking the first prize of £1,000. He was the only player under par and won by two strokes from Lionel Platts. The event was played in April and was the first important event of the season. Grubb benefited from having played in the United States during the early part of the year and also because, in 1964, the PGA experimented with using the bigger ball, as used in America.
