Blauw-Wit Neerbeek
Blauw-Wit was a handball club from Neerbeek, Limburg. Blauw-Wit played together with its rival HV Caesar in sports hall De Haamen. The men's team of Blauw-Wit won three national titles, two times the national cup and one time the Super Cup. In 1998, Blauw-Wit merged with Caesar and became Beeker Fusie Club. History Blauw-Wit was founded in April 1957 in Neerbeek. In the fifties and sixties, the club led a fairly quiet existence, although the number of members of both the men's and women's teams grew steadily. In 1978, the men's team promoted to the Eredivisie. The team managed to win the national title in 1980 and 1981, at the expense of renowned teams such as Sittardia and Hermes. From that moment on, the club played at the highest national handball level. Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. Blue
Blue is one of the three primary colours in the RYB colour model (traditional colour theory), as well as in the RGB (additive) colour model. It lies between violet and cyan on the spectrum of visible light. The eye perceives blue when observing light with a dominant wavelength between approximately 450 and 495 nanometres. Beek
Beek (; li, Baek ) is a town and municipality in the southeastern Netherlands, in the province of Limburg. As of 2012, Beek has a population of about 16,400, of which about 8,800 live in the town of Beek. The municipality of Beek makes part of the region of South Limburg and lies between the city of Geleen in the north and Maastricht in the south, and lies furthermore southeast of interchange Kerensheide and the chemical industries of Chemelot. Neerbeek
Neerbeek is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is located in the municipality of Beek. The village has a population of around 2,400 people. The village used to split between the Dutch Republic and the Spanish Netherlands. History The village was first mentioned in 1225 as Nederbeke, and means "lower lying brook". Neder (lower) has been added to distinguish from Beek, and the brook refers to the Keutelbeek. Neerbeek is a village which developed in the Middle Ages along the Keutelbeek. In 1505, the hamlet was burnt down by the troops of the Duchy of Guelders. In 1661, Neerbeek was split in a part belonging to Beek, Dutch Republic and a part belonging to Geleen, Spanish Netherlands. The parts were often referred to a Dutch Neerbeek and Spanish Neerbeek. Neerbeek was home to 516 people in 1840. HV Sittardia
HV Sittardia is a Dutch handball club in Sittard. The club was founded in 1949. Sittardia is one of the most successful handball teams in Dutch handball history. They won the Dutch National Championship in 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1987, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1997 and 1999. In 2007, they nearly became champion again, but they lost the finals against Volendam. The club has participated in European club team tournaments several times. In 2008, Sittardia co-operated with V&L and HV BFC to form a stronger men's team.
