Blank Canvas (film)
''Blank Canvas'' is a 2009 documentary film about the creation of 'We Unfold', a contemporary dance work. The film was directed by Tim Slade and features Spanish-born choreographer Rafael Bonachela and the Sydney Dance Company. The film was made as Rafael Bonachela began his tenure at the helm of the company, after a period of instability due to the departure of long time Artistic Director Graeme Murphy and the sudden death of Tanja Liedtke, who was about to begin as his successor. The film touches on this transitional period, but structures itself around the chronological creation of the 'We Unfold', as well as around the movements of the musical composition on which it is based, the Symphony No.1 'Oceans' for cello and orchestra by Italian composer Ezio Bosso. Tim Slade is an Australian born film and television director, who works in both documentary and drama. His films have screened theatrically, at film festivals and on broadcast television in the UK, Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand. Sydney Dance Company is a contemporary dance company in Australia. The company has performed on stages around the world, including the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Joyce Theater in New York, the Shanghai Grand Theatre in China, and the Stanislavsky Theatre in Moscow. Graeme Murphy
Graeme Lloyd Murphy AO (born 2 November 1950) is an Australian choreographer. With his fellow dancer (and wife since 2004) Janet Vernon, he guided Sydney Dance Company to become one of Australia's most successful and best-known dance companies. Biography Murphy was born in Melbourne, and grew up in Tasmania, where he took dance classes with Kenneth Gillespie in Launceston. He began his career as a student at the Australian Ballet School at the age of fourteen. In 1968 he became a dancer with the Australian Ballet where he had opportunities to choreograph. He toured America with the Australian Ballet in 1970–1971 and created his first ballet, ''Ecco le Diavole'' (Ecco). Ecco was presented at Melbourne's Princess Theatre in July 1971. Tanja Liedtke
Tanja Michaela Karin Liedtke (6 October 1977 – 17 August 2007) was a German-born professional choreographer and dancer. She was most noted as a dancer, choreographer and director of contemporary dance in Australia and Europe. Early life and education Tanja Michaela Karin Liedtke was born on 6 October 1977 in Stuttgart, West Germany. As a young child, she moved with her family to Madrid, Spain, where she began to study ballet. Her family then settled in London, England, where she won a place to study at the Elmhurst School for Dance. After deciding to pursue a career in contemporary dance, she continued her studies at the Rambert School in London, graduating in 1995. Ezio Bosso
Ezio Bosso (; 13 September 1971 – 14 May 2020) was an Italian composer, pianist, double bass player, and conductor. He composed film scores such as '' Un amore'' and Gabriele Salvatores' ''Io non ho paura'', and ballets which were performed by The Royal Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet, among others. As a pianist, he released a solo album which entered the Italian charts.
