Thomas Lester Blakemore (August 26, 1915 – February 19, 1994) was an American lawyer who practiced in Tokyo, Japan for four decades following World War II. He was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma and earned a law degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1938. He studied law on a postgraduate level at Cambridge University and Tokyo Imperial University. During World War II, he became a captain in the United States Army, and served with the Office of Strategic Services in China.Following the war, he served as a legal officer under General Douglas MacArthur in the Office of the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, where he worked on the revision of Japanese pre-war statutes. He passed the Japanese bar examination in 1949 and became a Japanese attorney at law in 1950. Born in the West Midlands region of England, he held seats in southern Wales at The Leys, near Monmouth, and Velindre House, in Whitchurch, Cardiff. Career Through his uncle, the ironmaster John Partridge, Blakemore became a partner with Harford, Partridge and Company, a notable ironmaster firm in South Wales. He assumed management of the Melingriffith Tin Plate Works in Whitchurch at the end of the 18th century. Eventually, he became sole owner of the works, and was directing its management as late as 1838. He also owned the Pentyrch ironworks. John Blakemore (born 1936), is an English photographer who has worked in documentary, landscape, still life and hand made books. He taught the medium full time from 1970. He has been the recipient of Arts Council awards, a British Council Travelling Exhibition and in 1992 won the Fox Talbot Award for Photography. He was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society in 1998. Life and work Blakemore was born 15 July 1936 in Coventry and was educated at the John Gulson School.
