Blake Coburn
Blake Peter Coburn (born 25 December 1995) is a New Zealand cricketer. He played for Canterbury from 2017–18 to 2022–23. Coburn was born in Christchurch and educated there at Shirley Boys' High School. A left-arm wrist-spin bowler, he has an unusual bowling action: his torso rotates downward and his head gets below the horizontal when releasing the ball. Coburn made his first-class debut for Canterbury in the 2017–18 Plunket Shield season on 23 October 2017. In November 2017, in his second match, he took 7 for 64 in the second innings to lead Canterbury to victory over Northern Districts by 8 runs. 2017–18 Plunket Shield Season
The 2017–18 Plunket Shield was the 89th season of the Plunket Shield, the domestic first-class cricket competition in New Zealand. The competition started on 23 October 2017 and finished on 5 April 2018. Canterbury were the defending champions. The round eight fixture between Canterbury and Auckland at the Mainpower Oval in Rangiora was called off due to an unsafe pitch. The umpires abandoned the game after only three balls were bowled on day three of the match. Central Districts won the tournament, following the final round of fixtures, after their nearest rivals, Wellington, failed to win their last match. The 2018–19 Ford Trophy was the 48th season of The Ford Trophy, the List A cricket tournament in New Zealand. It was the eighth in a sponsorship deal between New Zealand Cricket and Ford Motor Company. Originally scheduled to take place between December 2018 and February 2019, it was brought forward, starting on 24 October and finished on 1 December 2018. Unlike the previous edition of the competition, the tournament featured ten rounds of matches, instead of eight. Auckland were the defending champions. Northern Districts Men's Cricket Team
The Northern Districts men's cricket team are one of six New Zealand first-class cricket teams that make up New Zealand Cricket. They are based in the northern half of the North Island of New Zealand (excluding Auckland). They compete in the Plunket Shield first-class competition, the Ford Trophy domestic one-day competition and the Men's Super Smash T20 competition as the Northern Brave. The T20 team was previously known as the Northern Knights until the 2021–22 season, when both the men's and Northern Brave (women's cricket), women's teams were rebranded under the same name. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is of three or more days scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Shirley Boys' High School
Shirley Boys' High School (), also known as SBHS, is a single sex state (public) secondary school in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was originally situated on a 6 hectare site in the suburb of Shirley, but in April 2019 moved, along with Avonside Girls' High School, further east to the former QEII Park, 8.6 kilometres from the city centre. Brief history Parents in the eastern and northern suburbs of Christchurch had wanted single-sex education for their sons. In 1957, this finally became available when the school opened under its first Headmaster, Charles Gallagher. Established on a swampy paddock formerly used for grazing horses to the west of North Parade, the School grew rapidly.
