Blackwood Interchange () is a bus station located in the town centre of Blackwood, Caerphilly, South Wales. It is situated on Gordon Road adjacent to the High Street. Background The existing Blackwood Bus Station redeveloped by Caerphilly County Borough Council in 2007. The project cost an approximate £2.4 million. During development, traders in the town centre voiced concerns that "customers will be put off walking through the market when contractors move in" however Councillors reassured concerned individuals with the prospect of a reduction in the business rate for affected businesses. Architect Geraint Jones, unusually, was an internal developer from within Caerphilly Council's own department, at a time where most civic developments in the UK are designed by private practices. The South Wales Metro () is an integrated heavy rail, light rail and bus-based public transport services and systems network being developed in South East Wales around the hub of railway station.The development will also include the electrification of the core Valley Lines and new stations: all nine lines will be electrified. The first phase was approved for development in October 2013. A new depot was constructed at Taff's Well and new trains were built by Stadler Rail in Switzerland. rail linc () is a brand name applied to routes formerly operating under the now-defunct South East Wales Transport Alliance- but now operating under Adventure Travel. History In a number of cases, the services were set up sometime after rail services to the villages were axed as part of Dr Beeching's rationalisation of the British Rail network; however some services provide a link to villages that never had a railway station. Blackwood railway station () was a station on the Sirhowy Railway. It served the town of Blackwood, Caerphilly. History The station opened on 19 June 1865 by the Sirhowy Railway The Sirhowy Tramroad was a plateway built to convey the products of ironworks at Tredegar to Newport, South Wales. It opened in 1805 between Tredegar and Nine Mile Point, a location west of Risca, from where the Monmouthshire Canal Company ope ... after the conversion of the Sirhowy Tramroad to a standard gauge railway. The station had a signal box, which was eventually destroyed. Due to competition from bus services in the area, the station met its demise to passenger services on 13 June 1960, though the last train ran on the 11th. Goods traffic ceased on 8 February 1965. Present day Almost nothing of the station and route currently exists. The National Cycle Network route 467 between Blackwood and Hollybush follows a lot of former trackbed of the railway. Newport Bus Station
Newport Central bus station () is a bus terminus and interchange located in the city centre, Newport, South Wales. It is the largest road transport hub for public services in the county. It is situated on the Newport Market site and the adjacent Friars Walk site. Background The Newport Bus Station was previously a 26-stand facility located to the south of the current site. The bus station was not popular, with only 1% of customers being 'very satisfied' with the facility in a 2009 survey. It was demolished in 2014 (and relocated) as part of the city centre redevelopment. Redevelopment The bus station and surrounding area was part of the Friars Walk development scheme. Cwmbran bus station () is a bus terminus and interchange located in the town centre of Cwmbran, South Wales. Background The station was commissioned along with the wider development of the town of Cwmbran in August 1949, following the end of the Second World War. The UK embarked on a series of new towns in order to meet high demand for housing and employment, particularly in war ravaged communities. Under the New Towns Act 1946, Cwmbran became the first New Town in Wales. A body, Cwmbran Development Corporation, was created to oversee work. A 55-acre town centre was designed, and the bus station was the key interchange for both the retail and residential area. Bargoed Interchange () is a bus station located in the town centre of Bargoed, South Wales. It is situated near the High Street. Background The new station building was funded through the European Union Regional Development Fund, and through the Welsh Government's Targeted Match Funding, Transport Grant programme, and the Heads of the Valleys Programme. Layout The toilet facilities closed in April 2019 due to the increasing financial difficulties faced by Caerphilly Council. Caerphilly Town Centre public toilets re-opened in July 2019 but the fate of facilities in Blackwood remain uncertain. The station was covered by Caerphilly Council's Public Space Protection Orders issued in 2015, which introduced Community Safety Wardens empowered to issue fixed penalty notices of £100 for any incidents of anti-social activities at the station, including any "disorderly, indecent or offensive" behaviour including loitering. Gelligaer (; ) is a community in the County Borough of Caerphilly, Wales, in the Rhymney River valley. As well as the village of Gelligaer, the community also includes the small towns of Hengoed and Ystrad Mynach. The population of the community at the 2011 census was 18,408.
