Blackout Records
Blackout! Records is an independent record label which specializes in hardcore punk. It was formed in 1988 by Bill Wilson and Jim Gibson. In 1989, the label released its album, a New York hardcore compilation album entitled '' Where the Wild Things Are''. The album included tracks from Sheer Terror, Killing Time, and others. After this first release, Gibson amicably parted company to start his own record label, Noiseville Records. Blackout! continued to release more local hardcore, with EPs from Uppercut and Outburst, and a live single from Sheer Terror. This was followed by a mini album from Crawlpappy and the U.S. edition of the Sheer Terror album ''Just Can't Hate Enough''. Hardcore Punk
Hardcore punk (commonly abbreviated to hardcore or hXc) is a punk rock music genre#subtypes, subgenre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Punk rock in California, Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant History of the hippie movement, hippie cultural climate of the time. The Icemen
The Icemen are an American hardcore punk and metal band from New York City. The band was founded in late 1982 by guitarist and songwriter Marco Abularach. He was later joined by Noah Evans on bass guitar and Mackie Jayson (Bad Brains, Cro-Mags) on drums. Abularach and Evans grew up together in the Westbeth Artists Community of New York's Greenwich Village, and shared a recording/rehearsal studio there – Studio 50 otherwise known as SD50. They met Mackie at The High School of Music & Art. All of The Icemen's music and lyrics were written by Marco Abularach who, in addition, created all band related artwork. Plow United
Plow United is an American punk rock band formed in Wilmington, Delaware in 1992. They play fast punk rock with pop, thrashcore and hardcore influences. Their lyrics are sometimes labeled "emo". Band members are Brian McGee (vocals and guitar), Sean Rule (drums) and Joel Tannenbaum (bass). History Formation and first three albums (1992–1998) McGee, Rule and Tannenbaum met at a private high school in Wilmington, Delaware in 1989. In 1992, they formed a band called Plow and recorded two demo tapes ("Old Country Church Broadcast" and "Warped Sense of Humor"). Ensign (band)
Ensign is an American hardcore punk band from New Jersey. They formed in 1995 and signed with Indecision Records in 1996. They signed to the larger label "next door", Dexter Holland's Nitro Records, in 1998 and finally came to rest at Blackout Records in 2003 after a brief sortie back to Indecision in 2000. Deadguy is an American metalcore band from New Brunswick, New Jersey, New Brunswick, New Jersey. The band formed in 1994 and disbanded in 1997. Deadguy is considered to have played an important role in the development of the mathcore genre. Their debut studio album ''Fixation on a Co-Worker'' is cited as a classic within the genre by some. Breakdown (band)
Breakdown is an American hardcore band formed in Yonkers, New York, in late 1986. The band emerged from the mid-1980s New York hardcore scene, where they helped to pioneer the sound of tough guy hardcore. History Breakdown was started in 1986, during the resurgence of the hardcore scene. Despite being a NYHC band based in Yonkers, Breakdown did not have the Lower East Side Crew-mentality of Warzone and Agnostic Front. By a similar token, unlike some of their other contemporaries like Gorilla Biscuits and Youth of Today, Breakdown was not a straight edge positive band. They are considered more along the lines of Sheer Terror for their more metallic sound and less-than-positive lyrics. Awkward Thought
Awkward Thought is a New York hardcore punk band that was formed in the 1990s. History After numerous compilation appearances and two demo tapes, Awkward Thought released their first full-length album ''Mayday'', consisting of seventeen songs, on an American label Blackout Records in 2000; the album was released by I Scream Records in Europe. ''Exclaim!'' called the album "particularly outstanding" solid and "appeal ng to hardcore fans of 1980s music. Awkward Thought did a full coast-to-coast United States tour in summer 2000. The Banner (band)
The Banner is an American hardcore punk band from Bloomfield, New Jersey. The Banner broke up for a brief period in 2006 before reuniting with founding member Garrett DeFalco. The band released their third studio album, ''Frailty'', in 2008, which was written, recorded and produced at the Machine Shop studio in Hoboken, New Jersey, by Joey and Will Putney and released on the Ferret Music label. Crime in Stereo is a Long-Island-based hardcore punk band. The group released four full-length albums and a compilation, recording for the labels Blackout!, Nitro, and Bridge Nine before disbanding in 2010 and subsequently re-forming in 2012. Since 2012, the group have performed sporadically, released a song on a compilation in 2021, and eventually released their fifth full-length album, ''House & Trance'' in October 2023 on Pure Noise Records. Redemption 87
Redemption 87 was an American East Bay (California), East Bay hardcore punk band containing ex-members of Unit Pride, Skankin' Pickle, and Token Entry. It also included future members of AFI (band), AFI and the Nerve Agents. Their goal was to reclaim "hardcore" from the crossover thrash, crossover heavy metal music it had become and return it to its punk roots. They were heavily influenced by New York hardcore bands including Youth of Today, Sick of It All, Warzone (band), Warzone, and Gorilla Biscuits. In 1995 they released their first EP, ''The Spidey Sessions'', which contained four songs. Some of these songs were also included in their 13-song first album in 1997, which was self-titled.
