Blackburn Buccaneers
The Blackburn Buccaneers are a recreational ice hockey team who play their home games from Blackburn Ice Arena. Registered with the EIHA, they play non-checking ice hockey. The team is made up of players from complete beginners to experienced players. The club is run by an elected committee. Current committee The committee handles all the club's off-ice management and affairs. Recent history Early Years Whilst 2011 marked a turnaround for the structure and management of the club, it was a relatively unproductive year on the ice as the club only managed to put two wins on the board. Both victories came against the North East Nomads, 9–3 at Blackburn and 15–4 at Dumfries Ice Bowl. 2012 started where 2011 ended with an 18–5 loss to the Tyneside Jesters at Whitley Bay Ice Rink. England Ice Hockey (EIH), formerly the English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA). is the governing body of ice hockey in England and Wales. It was formed in 1982 and featured around 60 teams. EIHA is one of several bodies regulating ice hockey in the United Kingdom, along with Scottish Ice Hockey (SIH), the Northern Ireland Ice Hockey Association (IHNI), and Ice Hockey UK, which governs the national ice hockey teams of Great Britain as a national member of the International Ice Hockey Association (IIHF). Blackburn Ice Arena
Blackburn Arena is an Olympic-size ice arena in Blackburn, England. It is the home of Blackburn Hawks and Blackburn Eagles ice hockey clubs. The arena, which was opened in April 1991 by Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill, holds 3,200 people and has an ice pad of . The arena was built to coincide with Manchester’s 1996 Summer Olympic bid, with the possibility of boxing contests being held there. It was refurbished in 2005. Whitley Bay Ice Rink
Whitley Bay Ice Rink is an ice rink located in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear, England and is the home of the Whitley Warriors ice hockey team. An additional team played out of the ice rink, the Newcastle Vipers, who are now disbanded. It is one of two permanent public ice rinks in the north east of England. A ten-pin bowling centre in the area upstairs which was added in the 1960s was closed in 2007. This area (as of 2019) is now home to a newly refurbished entertainment suite and conference facility.
