Black Book (soundtrack)
The album ''Black Book'' is the soundtrack of the film '' Black Book'' (2006). The album was supposed to be released on 29 September 2006 by Warner, but this was rescheduled. The first release was on 2 October 2006 by Milan Records. The album contains 23 tracks. The first four tracks, songs from the 1930s and 1940s, are sung by actress Carice van Houten. In the film ''Black Book'' she plays Rachel Stein, a singer from Berlin. The first of these four songs is in English and the other three are in German. The other 19 tracks on the album are written by Anne Dudley Anne Jennifer Dudley (née Beckingham; born 7 May 1956) is an English composer, keyboardist, conductor and pop musician. Anne Dudley
Anne Jennifer Dudley (née Beckingham; born 7 May 1956) is an English composer, keyboardist, conductor and pop musician. She was the first BBC Concert Orchestra's Composer in Association in 2001. She has worked in the classical and pop genres, as a film composer, and was one of the core members of the Synth-pop band Art of Noise. In 1998, Dudley won an Oscar for Best Original Musical or Comedy Score for '' The Full Monty''. In addition to over twenty other film scores, in 2012 she served as music producer for the film version of ''Les Misérables'', also acting as arranger and composing some new additional music. Bruno Balz
Bruno Balz (6 October 1902, in Berlin – 14 March 1988, in Bad Wiessee) was a German songwriter and schlager writer. From the time he wrote the music for the first German sound film until his retirement in the 1960s, Balz was responsible for the lyrics to over a thousand popular hits. Much of his output was in conjunction with the composer Michael Jary; their songs helped make the singer Zarah Leander popular. Balz was arrested several times for homosexuality. In 1936 he spent several months in prison, and was released under an agreement that mandated that his name was no longer to appear in public. To maintain the appearance of propriety he entered a "lavender marriage" with a woman named Selma. He was rearrested in 1941 by the Gestapo and was kept in the Gestapo headquarters in Prinz-Albrecht-Straße. Friedrich Hollaender (in exile also Frederick Hollander; 18 October 189618 January 1976) was a German film composer and author. Life and career He was born in London to a Jewish family, where his father, operetta composer Victor Hollaender, worked as a musical director at the Barnum & Bailey Circus. Young Hollaender had a solid music and theatre family background: his uncle Gustav was director of the Stern Conservatory in Berlin, and his uncle Felix Hollaender was a well-known novelist and drama critic, who later worked with Max Reinhardt at the Deutsches Theater. Ned Washington (born Edward Michael Washington, August 15, 1901 – December 20, 1976) was an American lyricist born in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
