Black-and-orange Flycatcher
The black-and-orange flycatcher (''Ficedula nigrorufa'') or black-and-rufous flycatcher is a species of Old World flycatcher, flycatcher endemic to the central and southern Western Ghats, the Nilgiris (mountains), Nilgiris and Palni Hills, Palni hill ranges in southern India. It is unique among the ''Ficedula'' flycatchers in having rufous coloration on its back and prior to molecular studies was suggested to be related to the chats and thrushes. Description A distinctly coloured bird found mainly in the high-elevation areas of the Western Ghats, the Nilgiris, the Palnis and associated hill ranges. The male is distinctly black headed with black wings. The female has the black replaced by dark brown and has a light eye-ring. They are usually seen singly or in pairs. The young bird at around two weeks of age is brownish orange with a whitish vent and abdomen. The head has dark streaks and the wings appear bluish with a trace of brown. Bababudan Hills
Baba Budangiri (), also known as Chandradrona (, as the range naturally forms the shape of a crescent moon), is a hill and List of mountain ranges in India, mountain range in the Western Ghats of India, located in the Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka. The main peaks in this range are the eponymous Baba Budangiri (height 1895 m), Mullayanagiri (1930 m) and others. Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in the range. With a height of 1930 m (6317 ft), it is the fourth highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris (mountains), Nilgiris. There is a famous trekking trail between Mullayanagiri and Baba Budangiri. Ficedula
The ''Ficedula'' flycatchers are a genus of Old World flycatchers. The genus is the largest in the family, containing around thirty species. They have sometimes been included in the genus ''Muscicapa''. The genus is found in Europe, Asia and Africa. Several species are highly migratory, whereas other species are sedentary. Taxonomy and systematics The genus was introduced by the French naturalist Mathurin Jacques Brisson in 1760 with the European pied flycatcher (''Ficedula hypoleuca'') as the type species. The genus name is from Latin and refers to a small fig-eating bird (''ficus'', "fig") supposed to change into the Eurasian blackcap, blackcap in winter. Kudremukh National Park
Kudremukh is a mountain in Chikmagalur district, in Karnataka, India. The name literally means 'horse-face' and refers to one picturesque view of a side of the mountain. The name also refers to the small town near the mountain, about 48 kilometres from Karkala and about 20 kilometres from Kalsa. It was primarily an iron ore mining town where the government run Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited (KIOCL) which is closed due to aesthetic and conservation purposes. It is noted for its scenic beauty, located in midst of mountains. Built on lines of colonial towns this place is worth a visit. Owning to the dense forests, sighting wildlife can be challenging, though the area is rich in wildlife. Nonetheless the drive through the forest ranges can be enchanting and exhilarating.
