Bjoren
SS ''Bjoren'' is a wood-fuelled steamboat that travels the route between Bygland-Byglandsfjord, Bygland and Bygland- Ose on the lake Byglandsfjorden in the municipality of Bygland in the Setesdal valley. She runs on Sundays in July. Using wood as fuel is a natural choice as there was, and still is, good local access to it. Using wood to fuel the steam engine contributes to make ''Bjoren'' a unique part of Norway's cultural heritage and a floating technical museum. History The steamer ''Bjoren'' was built at Akers Mekaniske Verksted in 1866. She was long, had a engine and was certified for up to 92 passengers. Bygland is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Setesdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Bygland. Byglandsfjord is a village in Bygland municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located in the Setesdal valley along the Norwegian National Road 9 and the river Otra in the far southern part of the municipality, just north of the border with Evje og Hornnes municipality and at the southern end of the lake Byglandsfjorden. Setesdal
Setesdal (; older name: Sætersdal) is a valley and a traditional district in Agder County in southern Norway. It consists of the municipalities of Bykle, Valle, Bygland, Iveland, and Evje og Hornnes. The Otra river flows through the valley of Setesdal into the sea near Kristiansand. It flows southward from the Hardangervidda plateau in Telemark. The historic Setesdal starts at Evje and extends as far as the farm Bjåen, at the edge of the traditional region of Telemark. Øvre (Upper) Setesdal is in the municipality of Bykle. Ose, Norway
Ose is a village in Bygland municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located along the river Otra, just north of the lake Åraksfjorden. The Norwegian National Road 9 runs through the village. Just across the river to the north lies the village of Austad, and about to the north along Highway 9 lies the village of Moi. Byglandsfjorden
Byglandsfjorden is a lake in Agder county, Norway. The lake lies on the river Otra, primarily in the municipality of Bygland, but the far southern tip of the lake extends into the neighboring municipality of Evje og Hornnes. The river flows out of the lake Åraksfjorden to the north and into the Byglandsfjorden through a narrow channel, and the southern end of the Byglandsfjorden is marked by a dam along the river. The villages of Byglandsfjord, Grendi, Longerak, Lauvdal, and Bygland are all located on the eastern shore of the lake along the Norwegian National Road 9. Kilefjorden
Kilefjorden is a lake on in Agder county, Norway. The lake is located on the border of the municipalities of Evje og Hornnes, Iveland, and Vennesla. The lake is part of the river Otra. The lake is located about west of the village of Birketveit in Iveland, about north of the village of Hægeland in Vennesla, and about south of the village of Hornnes in Evje og Hornnes. The steamship Bjoren worked in this lake from 1866–1896 transporting people and items across the lake. In 1896, the boat was moved to the Byglandsfjorden. The Norwegian National Road 9 runs along the southwestern end of the lake. Prior to 1950, the lake's outflow was at the waterfall ''Soga'' on the southeast end of the lake. Byglandsfjord Station
Byglandsfjord Station was a railway station in the village of Byglandsfjord in Bygland municipality in Agder county, Norway. It was the terminus station for the old Setesdal Line that traveled up the Setesdal valley from Kristiansand - Grovane - Byglandsfjord until the railway line was closed in 1962. The station sits on the eastern shore of the river Otra, at the south end of the lake Byglandsfjorden. Further transport into the Setesdal valley happened by steamboat on the Byglandsfjorden lake. One of the steamers, , is preserved and still takes passengers during the summer season. The station was built in the ''dragestil'' style and is now used as a library. Evje
Evje is a former municipality in the old Aust-Agder county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1877 until 1960. It was located in what is now the eastern part of the present-day municipality of Evje og Hornnes in the Setesdal valley of Agder county.
