''We Will Be the World Champions'' () is a 2015 Serbian sports drama film directed by Darko Bajić. It was one of six films shortlisted by Serbia to be their submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards, but lost out to ''Enclave''. The film is based on the true story of the Yugoslavia national basketball team who won the 1970 FIBA World Championship. Plot The film tells the story of the four men who founded the Yugoslav basketball school and who significantly contributed to the development of basketball in Europe - Nebojša Popović, Borislav Stanković, Radomir Šaper and Aleksandar Nikolić. The main event is the final match of the 1970 FIBA World Championship, held in Ljubljana between the national teams of Yugoslavia and the United States. Ljubodrag "Duci" Simonović ( sr-Cyrl, Љубодраг Дуци Симоновић, ); born 1 January 1949) is a Serbian philosopher, author and retired basketball player. He played with Red Star Belgrade, with which he won two National Championships, three National Cups and one FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup. From 1976 to 1978, he played for 1. Ratomir "Rato" Tvrdić (14 September 1943 – 20 August 2024) was a Croatian professional basketball player. Professional career Tvrdić played club basketball with the Croatian team KK Split. With Split, he won two national Yugoslav League championships (1971, 1977), three national Yugoslav Cups (1972, 1974, 1977), and two FIBA Korać Cups (1976, 1977). Igor Kovač (born 23 October 1983) is a Croatian actor. Kovač has acted in films, for the television and the theater. He is known for his performances in ''Debela'' and ''Rock'n'roll za DVA MIŠA'' at Zagreb's Mala Scena Theater, and for his prolific stints in the Gavella Drama Theatre and the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. Lazar Lečić
Lazar "Grk" Lečić (; 30 January 1939 – 13 August 2024) was a Yugoslav and later Macedonian professional basketball coach and player. He is considered the founder of Macedonian basketball, who had a huge role in the exit of Macedonian basketball clubs in Europe in the 1970s and 1980s. Lečić was also responsible for founding and organising the youth basketball schools in both North Macedonia and Greece.
