''Bites and Remission'' is a compilation by Skinny Puppy released on Nettwerk in 1987. The release of this compilation coincides with that of '' Remission & Bites'' and contains many of the same songs, albeit in a different context. This compilation culls songs from the assorted releases of Skinny Puppy's first two albums, '' Remission'' and '' Bites'', and features remixes of two songs in place of their original versions. Electronic body music (EBM) is a genre of electronic music that combines elements of industrial music and synth-punk with elements of dance music. It developed in the early 1980s in Western Europe, as an outgrowth of both the punk and the industrial music cultures. It combines sequenced repetitive basslines, programmed disco rhythms, and mostly undistorted vocals and command-like shouts with confrontational or provocative themes. Nettwerk
Nettwerk Music Group is an independent record label founded in 1984. The Vancouver-based company was created by principals Terry McBride and Mark Jowett as a record label to distribute recordings by the band Moev, but the label expanded in Canada and internationally. Initially specializing in electronic music including alternative dance and industrial, the label expanded its roster to include pop, rock and numerous singer-songwriters in the late 1980s and 1990s. Early artists included Coldplay, Sarah McLachlan, and Barenaked Ladies. In 2023, Nettwerk recapitalized to invest in catalog acquisitions and artist investments. ''Remission & Bites '' is a compilation by Skinny Puppy released on Play It Again Sam in 1987. The release of this compilation coincides with that of ''Bites and Remission'' and contains many of the same songs, albeit in a different context. This release is, to date, the only CD pressing of Skinny Puppy's first two albums in their original form. While the audio is free of any song-splicing or bonus tracks, the inserts contain a number of shortcomings. Skinny Puppy
Skinny Puppy was a Canadian electro-industrial band formed in Vancouver in 1982. The group was among the founders of the industrial rock and electro-industrial genres. Initially envisioned as an experimental side-project by cEvin Key (Kevin Crompton) while he was in the new wave band Images in Vogue, Skinny Puppy evolved into a full-time project with the addition of vocalist Nivek Ogre (Kevin Ogilvie). Over the course of 13 studio albums and many live tours, Key and Ogre were the only constant members. ''Remission'' is a 1984 EP by Canadian electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy, their record label debut and first release with Nettwerk. The 12-inch EP originally featured six tracks, then, a year later in 1985, it was released on cassette with five additional songs that lengthened the release to a full album. This expansion became the default version of ''Remission''. ''Remission'' was certified gold by Music Canada on January 31, 2000. Release history In December 1984, ''Remission'' was distributed through Nettwerk as Skinny Puppy's first major release. Despite being preceded by the embryonic '' Back & Forth'' EP that was limited to just 35 home-printed copies, ''Remission'' is seen as the band's debut effort. ''Bites'' is the first full-length studio album by Canadian industrial band Skinny Puppy, released as an LP through Nettwerk in 1985. It was reissued in 1993 on CD with additional material compiled from cassette releases, international releases, and previously undistributed tracks. The cover art was designed by Steven R. Gilmore. ''Bites'' was certified gold by Music Canada on August 5, 1994. Background The first CD release of ''Bites'' was on the compilation '' Bites and Remission'' in 1987. This release replaced the songs "Assimilate" and "The Choke" with remixed versions and it did not include all of the tracks featured on the earlier cassette release, which was significantly longer. A similar but distinct CD called '' Remission & Bites'' was released by Play It Again Sam in Europe during the same year. ''The Tenant'' () is a 1976 French psychological horror thriller film directed by Roman Polanski from a screenplay he co-wrote with Gérard Brach, based on the 1964 novel of the same name by Roland Topor.
