Bitburg-Prüm
The Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm () is a district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is bounded by (from the west and clockwise) Luxembourg, Belgium and the districts of Euskirchen, Vulkaneifel, Bernkastel-Wittlich and Trier-Saarburg. History There are three different historical regions: the abbey and the city of Prüm have been directly subordinate to the Holy Roman Emperor in medieval times; later the free city became the principality of Prüm, occupying large portions in the north. The southwest including the town of Bitburg was a part of the Duchy of Luxemburg from the 10th to the 15th century. Later it was a part of the Seventeen Provinces and hence under Spanish and then Austrian rule. Eschfeld
Eschfeld is a municipality in the district of Bitburg-Prüm, in Rhineland-Palatinate, western Germany. Geography Eschfeld is located in the South Eifel Nature Park. The community includes parts of the Banzenhof residential area and the hamlet of Wässerchen. Both towns also belong to the neighboring municipality of Reiff. History Eschfeld's beginnings as a Celtic settlement date back to around 400 BC. BC, which is concluded by finds of bone remains and vessel shards from 1948. There is also a group of tumulus and a cremation burial ground in the Eschfeld area from the Hunsrück-Eifel culture period and the Roman period. Both are now viewed as a connected necropolis. The first documented mention dates back to 1330, when Eschfeld belonged to the Archdiocese of Trier. Bitburg (; ; ) is a city in Germany, in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate approximately 25 km (16 mi.) northwest of Trier and 50 km (31 mi.) northeast of Luxembourg (city), Luxembourg city. Vulkaneifel () is a district (''Kreis'') in the northwest of the state Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is the least densely populated district in the state and the fourth most sparsely populated district in Germany. The administrative centre of the district is in Daun. Neighboring districts are Euskirchen (district), Euskirchen (North Rhine-Westphalia), Ahrweiler (district), Ahrweiler, Mayen-Koblenz, Cochem-Zell, Bernkastel-Wittlich, and Bitburg-Prüm. Euskirchen (district)
Euskirchen () is a Kreis (district) in the south-west of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighboring districts are Aachen, Düren, Rhein-Erft-Kreis, Rhein-Sieg, Ahrweiler, Daun, Bitburg-Prüm, and the Liège province (Belgium). History In 1827 a first district around the city of Euskirchen was created, however much smaller than today. In 1932 the district of Rheinbach was dissolved, whereby the Euskirchen district gained its southern part. In 1972 the Euskirchen district grew again by the inclusion of the Schleiden district. Geography Geographically, the south-western half of the district is inside the Eifel hill chain. This land is hardly suitable for agriculture, and therefore in historical times the region was rather poor. Areas further to the north-east are more flat and have historically been used to grow a variety of crops, most notably sugar beets.
