Bistolfi
Leonardo Bistolfi (14 March 1859 – 2 September 1933) was an Italian sculptor and an important exponent of Italian Symbolism. Biography Bistolfi was born in Casale Monferrato in Piedmont, north-west Italy, to Giovanni Bistolfi, a sculptor in wood, and to Angela Amisano. Giovanni died at the age of 26 years, when Leonardo was still a boy. In 1876 he enrolled in the Brera Art Academy in Milan, where his teacher was Giosuè Argenti. In 1880 he studied under Odoardo Tabacchi at the Accademia Albertina in Turin. Work His first works, executed between 1880 and 1885, show the influence of the Milanese ''Scapigliatura'' movement. These first works include ''Le lavandaie'' (The Washerwomen), ''Tramonto'' (Sunset), ''Vespero'' (‘Evening’), ''Boaro'' (Cattle-hand), ''Gli amanti'' (The Lovers). Casale Monferrato
Casale Monferrato () is a town in the Piedmont region of Italy, in the province of Alessandria. It is situated about east of Turin on the right bank of the Po, where the river runs at the foot of the Montferrat hills. Beyond the river lies the vast plain of the Po valley. An ancient Roman ''municipium'', the town has been the most important trade and manufacturing centre of the area for centuries. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Casale became a free municipality and, in the 15th and early 16th centuries, served as the capital of the House of Palaiologos. Then in 1536 the town passed to the Gonzagas who fortified it with a large citadel. In the 17th century Casale was heavily involved in the War of the Mantuan Succession and besieged by French and Spanish troops. Stile Liberty
Liberty style ( it, Stile Liberty) was the Italian variant of Art Nouveau, which flourished between about 1890 and 1914. It was also sometimes known as ''stile floreale'', ''arte nuova'', or ''stile moderno''. It took its name from Arthur Lasenby Liberty and the store he founded in 1874 in London, Liberty Department Store, which specialized in importing ornaments, textiles and art objects from Japan and the Far East. Major Italian designers using the style included Carlo Bugatti, Raimondo D'Aronco, Eugenio Quarti, and Galileo Chini. The major event of the style was the 1902 Turin International Exposition, which featured by works of both Italian designers and other Art Nouveau designers from around Europe. Enrico Thovez (10 November 1869 – 16 February 1925) was an Italian artist-polymath best known for his contributions as a poet and literary critic. Biography Enrico Thovez was born in Turin less than ten years after unification. He was his parents' second son: his brother, Ettore, was five years older than he. Cesare Thovez, his father, was a hydraulics engineer of Savoyard provenance. His mother, Maria Angela Berlinguer, was from Sardinia, but could trace her own family back to Catalonia from where her ancestors had emigrated at the end of the sixteenth century. Thovez would later assert that he had inherited his love of poetry from his mother's aristocratic Spanish ancestors. Davide Calandra (21 October 1856 – 8 September 1915) was an Italian sculptor and cabinet maker. Biography Davide Calandra was born in Turin into a wealthy family. His father, besides his professional activities of lawyer and hydraulic engineer, was an archaeologist and a well known collector of ancient weapons. Davide's eldest brother, the writer Edoardo Calandra, was a prominent author who wrote the novel ''La bufera'', an example of historical fiction. After attending the Liceo Calandra followed the art lectures of the Accademia Albertina and then joined as a volunteer the cavalry where he attained the military rank of '' Sottotenente'' (Sub-Lieutenant). Odoardo Tabacchi ( Valganna, 19 December 1836 - Milan, 23 March 1905) was an Italian sculptor. Biography He trained in the Brera Academy starting in 1845, from here he studied with other sculptors in Milan, Rome (where in 1851 he wins a three-year stipend), Florence, and Naples. Lorenzo Delleani (1840 – 1908) was an Italian painter. Biography He was born in Pollone in the province of Biella, Piedmont. He was a pupil of Enrico Gamba and Carlo Arienti at the Albertina Academy in Turin, Delleani worked initially in the field of history painting and received various marks of official recognition. He exhibited work at the Paris Salon of 1874 and gradually modernised his means of expression and range of subjects at the end of the decade with a new focus on landscape and painting from life. The early 1880s saw an exclusive focus on painting en plein air, capturing light in thick strokes of colour. His most frequent subjects were views of the Piedmontese and Lombard countryside in changing conditions of light and season.
