Pontus De Tyard
Pontus de Tyard (also Thyard, Thiard) (c. 1521 – 23 September 1605) was a French poet and priest, a member of "La Pléiade". Life He was born at Bissy-sur-Fley in Burgundy, of which he was ''seigneur'', but the exact year of his birth is uncertain. He became a friend of Antoine Héroet and Maurice Scève. His first published work, ''Erreurs amoureuses'' 1549, was augmented with other poems in successive editions till 1573. His work anticipated that of Pierre de Ronsard and Joachim du Bellay. He was one of the first to write sonnets in the French language (preceded by Clément Marot and Mellin de Saint-Gelais). He is also said to have introduced the ''sestina'', originally a Provençal invention, into French poetry. Tyard contributed to the poetic and metaphysical program of La Pléiade by elaborating, in his ''Solitaire Premier, ou Prose des Muses, et de la fureur poétique'' (1552), a full theory of divine fury, derived in large part from the Latin translations and ... Henri-Pons de Thiard de Bissy (25 May 1657 – 26 July 1737) was a French priest who was Bishop of Toul from 1687 to 1704, Bishop of Meaux from 1704 to 1737, and Cardinal from 1715 to 1737. Biography Henri Pons Thiard Bissy was born on 25 May 1657 in Pierre-de-Bresse. Destined for an ecclesiastical career, he was first licensed as a doctor at the Sorbonne in 1685. Appointed Bishop of Toul on 29 March 1687, disputes between Rome and King Louis XIV of France prevented the sending of papal bulls, and his appointment was not confirmed until 10 March 1692. He was ordained Bishop on 24 August 1692. He took part in disputes arising in Lorraine against the edicts of Leopold I of Lorraine, which were considered to be contrary to the jurisdiction and authority of the Church. On 10 May 1704 he was appointed Bishop of Meaux, confirmed on 9 February 1705. He succeeded the famous Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet in this post. Monique De Bissy
Monique de Bissy (married Schimmelpenninck; 13 March 1923 – 17 November 2009) was a French-Belgian resistance member during World War II. She was born in Schaerbeek, Belgium and died in Montpellier, France. Belgian Resistance Monique de Bissy started the war as a nurse for the Belgian Red Cross and then she enrolled in the Resistance after the Belgian defeat in 1940 (aged 17). She worked for several resistance groups, such as the « Brigade Blanche », and the « Ailes Brisées ». She also worked on the Comet Line. She organized and participated in the escape to Spain of 20 Allies pilots after their aircraft had been shot by the German Army around the Belgian city of Liège. She was arrested in 1944 after denunciation and was taken to the jail of Maastricht in Netherlands where she was tortured.
