Bishop Daniel S. Tuttle House
Bishop Daniel S. Tuttle House is a nonresidential building adjacent to St. Michael's Episcopal Cathedral in Boise, Idaho. The building was designed by local architects Wayland & Fennell and constructed in 1907 under the direction of Bishop Funsten of the Episcopal Diocese of Idaho, and the building commemorates the work of Daniel S. Tuttle, first bishop of Idaho. With History Five years after construction of St. Michael's Cathedral (1902), the congregation and its leadership recognized a need for space devoted to receptions, recitals, classrooms, library, gymnasium, and offices. And from its conception, the new building was also intended to honor the work of Bishop Tuttle. Tudor Gothic style and Boise sandstone were chosen to match the exterior of the adjacent cathedral. After the Bishop Tuttle House was completed, the ''Idaho Statesman'' described it as "a stone building of handsome design...costing nearly $20,000." Wayland & Fennell
Wayland & Fennell was an architectural firm in Idaho. Many of their works are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Charles W. Wayland (1874-1953) worked as a drafter in the office of Boise architect William S. Campbell for two years, 1900–1902, then became a partner when the firm was reorganized as Campbell & Wayland. The partnership was dissolved in 1904 when Wayland partnered with Fennell. James A. Fennell (1874-1941) worked as a drafter in the office of San Francisco architect Alexander F. Oakey, then in the office of Butte, Montana, architect J.W. White. Fennell later formed Fennell & Cove in partnership with George B. Cove, headquartered in Butte. James Bowen Funsten
James Bowen Funsten (July 23, 1856 - December 2, 1918) was the third bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Idaho, serving from 1898 to 1918. Biography He was born near Winchester, Virginia to Col. Oliver Ridgeway Funsten, and Mary Funsten (née Bowen). He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1875.
