Starwings Basel, commonly known as Starwings, is a Swiss professional basketball club based in Basel. The club competes in the Swiss Basketball League (SBL), the highest tier of basketball in Switzerland., indoorsports.ch , accessed 5 September 2015. Its main accomplishment to date was the win of the Swiss Cup, in 2010. Eleven years later, in 2021, Starwings reached the finals of the Swiss League. The Starwings are currently the only professional basketball team from German-speaking Switzerland. History The organization, which emerged from the two clubs BC Arlesheim and CVJM Birsfelden, was founded in 2002. The Swiss Basketball League, also known as SB League or SBL, is the top-tier professional club basketball league in Switzerland. It is organized by Swiss Basketball. The winners of the SBL are crowned Swiss national basketball champions. Currently, twelve teams compete in the league. Historically, Fribourg Olympic is the league's most successful team, as it has won a league-record 19 championships. Until 2017, the league was known as the Championnat LNA. He played college basketball for the Little Rock Trojans and the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. Early life His hometown is Yazoo City, Mississippi, and his parents are Deon Burns and Belinda Smith. Povilas Čukinas (born 11 April 1983) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player. Professional career Born in Trakai, Čukinas started his career in LKAL's Puntukas Anykščiai. He moved to Alita Alytus of LKL. Although the player's statistics were not impressive (he averaged 3.8 points per game for Alita), then-LKL champion BC Lietuvos Rytas signed a long-term contract with the young forward. Čukinas played for Lietuvos Rytas for four consecutive years, but was used sparingly. His best season was the 2003-04 season, when Čukinas averaged 10.7 points per game.
