Birpurush (play)
''Birpurush'' is a 2010 Bengali drama staged by Kolkata based theatre group Swapnasandhani and directed by Kaushik Sen. Plot The drama is inspired by Rabindranath Tagore's poem Birpurush, it was not a children's play (though it was misinterpreted like that). The play had some amount of violence in it. The story was based on contemporary social and political condition of West Bengal. A wounded soldier and a Maoist get trapped in a forest and there they both claim to be ''Birpurush'' (brave man). There were some characters like 'Kishen Kanhaiya', 'Buddhadesh' and 'Monmohinidesh' which mocked real life personalities. In this play Kaushik Sen acted as himself and it is a self-critical character. Swapnasandhani (Bengali: ) is a Bengali theater group from Kolkata. The group was founded on 29 May 1992. Swapnasandhani has been marked by the acting and direction of Kaushik Sen. Performance From 2006, Swapnasandhani began performing on a regular basis at the Sujata Sadan every Saturday. Kaushik Sen
Koushik Sen (born 19 September 1968) is an Indian actor of film, television and theatre based in Kolkata. He is the director of the well-acclaimed theatre group Swapnasandhani. He has won the BFJA awards for best supporting actor for his performance in the Mrinal Sen directed film ''Aamar Bhuvan''. Personal life Koushik Sen was born on 19 September 1968. He is the son of actress Chitra Sen and actor Shyamal Sen. He studied at the Julien Day School, and graduated from Scottish Church College, both in Kolkata. Bohurupee is a Bengali premier theatre group. Bohurupee was founded in 1948 by several active members who left the Indian People's Theatre Association. The group was created to present the experimental Bengali drama in unusual form. Early days After breaking away from Indian People's Theatre Association, prominent Bengali theatre personalities like Sombhu Mitra, Bijon Bhattacharya created Bohurupee in 1948.
