Biological Psychiatry (journal)
''Biological Psychiatry'' is a biweekly, Peer review, peer-reviewed, scientific journal of psychiatry, psychiatric neuroscience and therapeutics, published by Elsevier since 1985 on behalf of the Society of Biological Psychiatry, of which it is the official journal. The journal covers a broad range of topics related to the pathophysiology and treatment of major neuropsychiatric disorders. A yearly supplement is published which contains the abstracts from the annual meeting of the Society of Biological Psychiatry. History The journal was established in 1959 as ''Recent Advances in Biological Psychiatry''. It obtained its current name in 1969 with volume numbering restarting at 1 and is the official journal of the Society of Biological Psychiatry. The founding editor-in-chief was Joseph Wortis, who edited the journal until 1992. The current editor is John H. Krystal (Yale University School of Medicine). Biological Psychiatry
Biological psychiatry or biopsychiatry is an approach to psychiatry that aims to understand mental disorder in terms of the biology, biological function of the nervous system. It is interdisciplinary in its approach and draws on sciences such as neuroscience, psychopharmacology, biochemistry, genetics, epigenetics and physiology to investigate the biological bases of behavior and psychopathology. Biopsychiatry is the Specialty (medicine), branch of medicine which deals with the study of the biological function of the nervous system in mental disorders. There is some overlap with neurology, which focuses on disorders where gross or visible pathology of the nervous system is apparent, such as epilepsy, cerebral palsy, encephalitis, neuritis, Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis. Scopus is a scientific abstract and citation database, launched by the academic publisher Elsevier as a competitor to older Web of Science in 2004. The Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) is a citation index owned by Clarivate and previously by Thomson Reuters. It was created by the Eugene Garfield at the Institute for Scientific Information, launched in 1964 as Science Citation Index (SCI). It was later distributed via CD/ DVD and became available online in 1997, when it acquired the current name. The indexing database covers more than 9,200 notable and significant journals, across 178 disciplines, from 1900 to the present. These are alternatively described as the world's leading journals of science and technology, because of a rigorous selection process. ''Referativny Zhurnal'' (or ''Referativnyi Zhurnal'') (, lit. ''Review Journal'') are the first two words of the titles of over a hundred different abstracting magazines (journals). They were mostly published (mostly monthly) by VINITI (All-Russian Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of the Russian Academy of Sciences located in Moscow). PsycINFO is a database of abstracts of literature in the field of psychology. It is produced by the American Psychological Association and distributed on the association's APA PsycNET and through third-party vendors. It is the electronic version of the now-ceased '' Psychological Abstracts''. In 2000, it absorbed PsycLIT which had been published on CD-ROM. PsycINFO contains citations and summaries from the 19th century to the present of journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations.
