Binibining Pilipinas 1964
Binibining Pilipinas 1964 was the first edition of Binibining Pilipinas, under the leadership of Stella Marquez-Araneta. It took place at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines on July 5, 1964. It was supposedly scheduled on July 3, 1964, but it was moved to two days after due to Typhoon Danding that affected Manila and Central Luzon. At the end of event, Lalaine Bennett, Miss Philippines 1963, crowned Myrna Panlilio as the first Binibining Pilipinas. Milagros Cataag was named Binibining Waling-waling (First Runner-Up), while Elvira Gonzales was named Binibining Ilang-Ilang (Second Runner-Up). Results ;Color keys * The contestant did not place. Araneta Coliseum
The Araneta Coliseum, also currently known by naming rights sponsorship as Smart Araneta Coliseum, is an indoor multi-purpose arena, sports arena that is part of the Araneta City in the Quezon City#Cubao, Cubao area of Quezon City, Philippines. Nicknamed "the Big Dome", it is one of the largest indoor arenas in Asia, and one of the largest clear span domes in the world. Binibining Pilipinas (abbreviated as Bb. Pilipinas or BBP; ) is the oldest active national beauty pageant in the Philippines. Founded in 1964, it currently selects Filipina representatives to compete in one of the Big Four international beauty pageants— Miss International, as well as representatives to other international pageants, such as The Miss Globe. Stella Araneta
María Stella Márquez de Araneta (born 17 June 1937) (née Márquez Zawadski), often styled as Madame Stella de Araneta, is a Colombian-Filipino pageant director and beauty queen. She grew up in New York City and moved back to Colombia, where she became a pageant titleholder. As Miss Colombia, she was crowned the first Miss International in 1960. She obtained her Filipino citizenship via naturalization in 1970. Araneta was the former national director of the Miss Universe and current director for Miss International franchises in the Philippines, under the Binibining Pilipinas organization. Miss Universe 1964 was the 13th Miss Universe pageant, held on at the Miami Beach Convention Hall in Miami Beach, Florida, United States 1 August 1964. At the end of the event, Iêda Maria Vargas of Brazil crowned Corinna Tsopei of Kingdom of Greece, Greece as Miss Universe 1964. It is the first victory of Greece in the history of the pageant.
